Kingcaps are a type of fungus that serve as obstacles. They usually block paths, often accompanied by Spotcaps. In Pikmin 4, they can be found on patches of sticky mold as its source, with their destruction being the means of removing the mold. Kingcaps are durable, and unlike the smaller Spotcaps, Pikmin can latch on to a Kingcap to attack it.
In Pikmin Bloom, Kingcaps, as well as Spotcaps, are the focus of mushroom challenges. In addition to having several different colors of caps, both types of fungus have variants engulfed in fire, water, crystal, and electricity.

Kingcaps appear unchanged in Pikmin V. They appear everywhere that their smaller relative, the Spotcap, does, and they still do not serve as a source of sticky mold. While poisonous Spotcaps return, the Kingcap variant does not.
Notes
Brittany's notes
- “A funny result of this planet's completely bizarre ecology is that evolutionary differences that would be considered normal on any other planet are treated with suspicion here. As far as we can tell, Kingcaps are just a variant of Spotcap that grow larger. That can happen in more nutrient-dense environments or where predators are scarcer. But when you look at the huge differences between species of Pikmin or Bulborb, it becomes hard to believe that it could possibly be this simple, like there has to be something crazy going on under the hood. I for one can't say either way, because I'm a plant specialist.”
Olimar's notes
- “As it poses no threat to your Pikmin, you can dispose of it however you'd like. Reds and Purples are especially quick about it.”
Louie's notes
- “Although larger than the Spotcap, it is still not a source of miraculous growth. The large, flat cap does make a decent meatless burger option. Not great, but decent.”

Kingcaps appear in Pikmin: Infection in Progress. They are rare at Polluted Creek, Noxious Expanse, Toxic Barrens, and Withering Terrace, but much more frequent at Fungal Grotto. Due to the plague spreading across the Distant Planet, mushrooms have spread immensely, especially underground. Destroying a Kingcap makes it tip in a predetermined direction before falling over, quickly decaying into nothingness afterward.

Kingcaps in Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers are stated to be the fully-matured form of Spotcaps. Functionally, they're the same as those in Pikmin 3.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “Spotcaps can grow to incredible sizes as they mature. Once they reach at least forty years of age, they reach a size so massive that their stems begin to split from the intense growth. These particular organisms are unable to propagate at this age, which can only be done around the twenty to thirty-five age range. Spotcaps of this size are usually called Kingcaps.”
Louie's notes
- “The cap has a sharp umami flavor, and a texture akin to a fine Chesire. Spread crumbs of it in your next casserole dish for the best results.”
Ship's comments
- “It's just a larger version of an already repugnant fungus. The tears in its tissue make me squirm.”
