Family Mandiblard (assumed)

The Plump Sheargrub is a mandiblard found in the files of Pikmin 3. It vaguely resembles a fat Male Sheargrub in color and size, and has a small, purple body, beady green eyes, a tan and brown underside and mandibles, a lavender-colored mouth, and what appears to be four small nubs that act as feet. The Plump Sheargrub is possibly a prototype of the Swarming Sheargrub, as it exhibits similar behaviors. It moves very quickly and has extreme difficulty catching and eating Pikmin as a result. It is unable to damage leaders. Damaging a Plump Sheargrub is practically impossible and can only be done by throwing Rock Pikmin at it or using bomb rocks against it.

Attacks Eats Pikmin

The Shearsprint is a springjab in Pikmin 2... Again?. It is similar to the Shearflea, but its mouth is more like a Male Sheargrub's and yellow. It is one of the fastest enemies, but its speed drastically reduces the accuracy of its bites. However, Pikmin it catches in its jaws are eaten instantly, with no chance of saving them. A single Pikmin throw is capable of killing one, though its quick and unpredictable movement may make aiming difficult.

Attacks Eats Pikmin

The Plump Sheargrub is a gluttonous mandiblard appearing in Pikmin: Wide World. They appear in swarms of five to six individuals, always initially found completely burrowed under the ground on dry land. While buried, the exact position of a Plump Sheargrub is indicated by a noticeable lump in the ground. A swarm of Plump Sheargrubs will emerge from the ground when approached by Pikmin or leaders, and then proceed to crawl slowly towards them, attempting to eat the former and bite the latter. Plump Sheargrubs will continue to pursue Pikmin and leaders in their territory until they leave its boundaries, flee far enough away, or reach a location they cannot access, at which point they will burrow into the ground somewhere near their initial locations. While burrowed, a Plump Sheargrub will regenerate any health it may have lost. Plump Sheargrubs can dismantle stick bridges and wooden climbing sticks using their mandibles, and may be released from some loose or packed soil blocks in their native habitat upon their destruction.

Plump Sheargrubs resemble most other mandiblards, being small, limbless insects with a set of mandibles. However, they are visibly obese, mostly at the facial area, and are light blue in color, have a white underside, and have dark brown eyes.

Despite its small size, a Plump Sheargrub can withstand quite a beating before dying. Charging Pikmin into a Plump Sheargrub often results in a relatively quick kill and could be considered the optimal strategy against one as throwing a Pikmin directly on top of one is not as effective as it is with other mandiblards. Only a direct Purple Pikmin pound is capable of instantly killing a Plump Sheargrub, although throwing Rock Pikmin at one is effective as they deal high damage when thrown. When at or below quarter-health, a Plump Sheargrub will attempt to retreat a small distance away from its attackers and burrow into the ground to regenerate its health. When its health reaches one-third, the creature will reemerge from the ground to resume battle should its prey still be nearby. Upon death, a Plump Sheargrub yields HP Sparklium icon.png × 1. Aboveground, its body can be taken to either the Dolphin Lander for P3 Poko icon.png × 2 or an Onion to gain two Pikmin seeds. Underground, its corpse can be taken to the Lander Pod to either gain P3 Poko icon.png × 2 or be stored to later gain two discovered main Pikmin seeds of choice from the Master Onion.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This obese mandiblard has a thick layer of fat that keeps it warm and protects it from harm. It has a slow movement speed but that does not stop it from devouring prey quickly.

Shacho's notes

Some people might say I'm as round as this bug, but I'm pretty nimble when I need to be, at least!

Marie's notes

Plump sheargrubs may inch along the ground at a slow pace, but they eat like they're at a buffet. They quickly chew and scarf down food, though, so watch your fingers!

Louie's notes

This small pest yields little meat, and generally it is not worth the effort to hunt the creature for it. However, its fat, which there is much of, is excellent for frying foods.

Dolphin Lander's notes

I was never quite aware insects could become fat! I only thought mammals could. It's always funny to see them crawl along the ground, but not when they start devouring the multicolored little creatures helping us survive.
