Dirt mounds are obstacles appearing as lumps of dirt on the ground, with a hole on top that Pikmin can climb in through. They contain items, including bridge fragments, bomb rocks, pellets and data files. Once everything has been removed, the Pikmin come out of the dirt mound, which then collapses and becomes unusable.

Use Drops items

Dirt mounds return in Pikmin 2... Again? as the main source of items. Dirt mounds can drop bomb rocks, bomb nuggets, aurora balls, and goop-berries. In some areas and caves, dirt mounds never collapse, meaning they will continue to yield items so long as Pikmin dig in them. These inexhaustive dirt mounds are usually near bosses that need specific items to be defeated, typically explosives, and will collapse when the boss is defeated.

Dirt mounds are a returning obstacle in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. Dirt mounds can be found in many different areas. They have a large hole on the top that can be entered by any Pikmin. If Pikmin enter, they will begin to dig out numerous objects. Mainly, they will unearth bomb rocks, but they can also dig up bridge fragments. Once dug through completely, the Pikmin will emerge and the mound will flatten. Fur Pikmin are the best at digging in dirt mounds due to their massive claws.

In Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers, dirt mounds are crucial in defeating the Billaborb, as bomb rocks are the beast's main weakness. Because of this, the dirt mounds in its arena only collapse when it dies. However, they'll stop producing bomb rocks if there are already three on the surface.
