Yellow Pikmin are a yellow species of Pikmin, with the special abilities of increased throw height and electricity resistance. These Pikmin have what would appear to be large ears; these are the means by which they are primarily identifiable. It is not known, however, whether or not this actually aids their hearing. Yellow Pikmin can be thrown higher, an ability that is needed to retrieve certain elevated ship parts, treasures and fruits, and are immune to electricity. Like Red Pikmin, Blue Pikmin, and Bulbmin, their buds and flowers are white, and their main method of production is through the Yellow Onion.

Traits and abilities

Yellow Pikmin have large ears, and can be thrown higher than other Pikmin, which is used at times throughout the games. In Pikmin 1, Yellow Pikmin are the only ones able to wield bomb rocks, for whatever reason.

In Pikmin 2, electrical hazards surface, with Yellow Pikmin now being immune to them, alongside Bulbmin. Their immunity to electric hazards is very helpful, as electricity is an otherwise instant-death hazard.

In Pikmin 3, Yellow Pikmin once again exhibit their immunity to electricity and their ability to be thrown high. Yellow Pikmin also show a new ability: they can dig faster than other Pikmin, although Rock Pikmin can dig tunnels even faster. They also can now conduct electricity. If a circuit is incomplete, enough Yellow Pikmin can continue the flow of electricity and complete it. The Yellow Pikmin also get flowered in the process. Their immunity to electricity is less useful in this game, as electricity only stuns other Pikmin, as opposed to instantly killing them.

Yellow Pikmin are the third Pikmin type discovered in Pikmin Forever. They are found early on in the Scalding Thicket. They retain their immunity to electricity, their high throwing trajectory, and their conductivity. However, they can now also store electricity, like a battery, for up to thirty seconds, unless recharged at an electric arc. This electric charge increases their speed slightly and allows them to power disconnected circuitry, such as in a magnetic bridge.

In Pikmin Kart, Yellow Pikmin are items that are commonly found from item boxes. They can be thrown in front of the kart of the player that received them, and they will latch onto any kart in their range. Their range is one-hundred-eighty degrees instead of one hundred twenty degrees, allowing them to latch onto karts to the side of the player that threw them. The driver who gets hit with one has to swerve wildly to shake it off. They also won't fall off if the driver drives into an electrical wire. As with all Pikmin items, the Whistle item can protect a player from Pikmin attacks, but with Yellow Pikmin, they can't steal them!

Yellow Pikmin appear in the Pikmin 1 card set in Pikmin TCG. As this is before they forgot how to use bomb rocks, they have a similar card to Bomb rock Pikmin, having explosion damage, a counter, and high attack. In other sets, they are more like Red Pikmin and Blue Pikmin, with just a resistance to electricity.

Yellow Pikmin are slightly faster than Red Pikmin, Blue Pikmin, and Cyan Pikmin. Yellow Pikmin have to unique ability to glow, but they only do this rarely. The glow does not last long, usually less than two seconds.

Yellow Pikmin appear in Pikmin: Return, and they are the second type of Pikmin found. They can still be thrown high, and both are immune to and conduct electricity. Much like in Pikmin Forever, they can now store electricity, except now it lasts an extended forty-five seconds and can be lost more easily. They are slightly faster and have an increase of attack power when they are charged, and can stun most enemies, although this removes the Pikmin's charge. Another use of this electricity is that it can be used to power disconnected wires. This energy can be lost by attacking enemies, attacking electric gates, and getting dropped in water, which will all discharge a charged Yellow Pikmin. The only way to charge Pikmin are electric arcs. Charged Pikmin will release small sparks, will have a higher-pitched voice, will be separated from the group when disbanded, and will have a different throw icon than normal Yellow Pikmin.

Yellow Pikmin are the third Pikmin to be discovered in Pikmin: Treasure Colonization. They have immunity to electricity and can be thrown higher than other Pikmin types. They can also conduct electricity. Electricity in this game is lethal, making Yellow Pikmin just a bit more helpful. Their flower's petals have a white color to them. Their height is thirty-three millimeters, and their carry capacity while under the effects of ultra-sour spray is four.

Notes

Olimar's notes

"This type of Pikmin has a lower body density than other Pikmin types, which gives them their high throwing capabilities. With such big ears, maybe they're used for throwing as well? Hearing even? Not enough evidence has been compiled in which this can be said true."

Tang's notes

"Not the Pikmin you would want exclusively in a battle unless up against an enemy with electricity. However, if put in the same group with other Pikmin of higher strength, or in big numbers, these little guys can be used for fighting. It's just the variables at this point."

Robin's notes

"That electricity immunity sure does look useful to me, and the ability to conduct it makes them that just more fun to entertain a machine powered by a long line of conducting Pikmin. I'll add it to the ideas book."

Yellow Pikmin are the first main Pikmin type found in Pikmin: Wide World. They are discovered in Balmy Highlands. They are resistant to electricity and can conduct it as well. Yellow Pikmin have average attack power, average mobility, high digging speed, and high throw distance. A Yellow Pikmin's defining features are its large, pointed ears and white flower. The voice of a Yellow Pikmin is more cheery-sounding than that of other Pikmin. Golden Candypops can be used to transform other Pikmin types into Yellow Pikmin.

Yellow Pikmin can be thrown higher than any other Pikmin type, which makes them useful for collecting objects that are on a high ledge. They also dig up buried objects and clear out tunnels faster than any other Pikmin type. Yellow Pikmin can also absorb the electrical current flowing through an electrocuted Pikmin's body, returning them to normal. Unlike in Pikmin 3, Yellow Pikmin do not become flowered after they complete an electrode's circuit.
