Ugh... more bugs! This one looks harmless... – The ship, upon discovering the Common Kettlebug

The Common Kettlebug is an enemy that appears in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf and, suggested by its name, is quite common. Resembling an Antenna Beetle, the small creature has a large, brown abdomen and head with a lighter brown snout. Along with this, it has long, peach-colored legs with stubbed feet and two red eyes with peach-colored antennae above them. The Common Kettlebug also has two light green wings, although they do not use them in any way.

Common Kettlebugs can be found wandering around an entire location, for they have no set territory. They will bump into just about any enemy, which may wake them up if they are sleeping. It can also prime any enemies with bombs, like Volatile Dweevils. Aside from this, the Common Kettlebug does not do anything in the form of attack or defense. If attacked, the Kettlebug will run away, shaking off Pikmin as it does so. It can not jump into the air or hypnotize Pikmin like other Kettlebugs. The creature is completely harmless.

Common Kettlebugs are extremely easy to defeat. They are not fast enough to outrun Pikmin, they don't have a lot of health, and they have no special weaknesses or resistances. Simply sending a small group of Pikmin to take them down will do the trick. Still, watch out for any bombs set off or enemies awoken from when this clumsy creature runs into them.

The Common Kettlebug is the only creature in Overlord mode to not be changed in any way.

Olimar's notes

The Common Kettlebug is one of the most... well, common Kettlebugs found on this planet. They don't have any special memorization abilities to ward off predators; they simply just flee and hide in the deepest of underground caves. They mainly feed on plant matter like fungi, and the occasional smaller insects. Due to how many eggs they can produce (80), and the lack of predators underground, the species is very abundant if you look in the right areas.

Louie's notes

This insect has a simple flavor when cooked normally. This makes it a perfect base to test just about any recipe or ingredient on! Go wild with it!

...

BORING!!

Overlord’s thoughts

Such a humble bug! To not have any special attacks or defenses to ward off prey, simply living in the moment... that is what makes me smile. Wait... Olimar, what are you doing with those Pikmin– OLIMAR WAIT–

A relative of the Antenna Beetle in Pikspore, the Common Kettlebug is a harmless species that acts as fodder for Pikmin. It resembles a light brown Antenna Beetle with green eyes. It simply hops around, slowly fleeing when it sees Pikmin. It uses its whistle to try and scare Pikmin away, but it doesn't do anything other than wake up any sleeping grub-dogs in its range.
