Red Bulbots are robotic grub-dogs that dash in a straight line towards leaders and Pikmin after being awakened. Should they grab a leader, they will do one of two things: swing them around and then toss them far away, or toss them into the air to eat them. The only weak spot Red Bulbots have is the glassy purple dome on their backs. When defeated, a Red Bulbot will collapse onto the ground, and explode after a few seconds.

The Red Bulbot is a mechanical grub-dog in Pikmin: Wide World that, like other mechanical enemies, is exclusive to Ancient Metalworks and its caves. The Red Bulborb is its organic counterpart. Red Bulbots sleep on land, either alone or in groups. They will awaken if they are approached or harmed, or hear a sound loud enough to rouse them from their sleep. While awake, a Red Bulbot will march toward leaders and Pikmin in its territory to eat them. It will even tread into water deeper than any Red Bulborb would go, as it can not drown, but it also can not swim, so it will walk along the bottom of the body. It will, however, try to avoid acid, despite the only effect the fluid has on it being corroding the paint off it. Pikmin it bites down on will be eaten normally, but leaders will be chewed up, swallowed, and dispensed from its rear shortly thereafter. When alone, it will seek a spot near its original resting position and return to its slumber there.

Red Bulbots closely resemble simplistic toy versions of Red Bulborbs, having light skin, a red backside with white spots, blue eyes with white sclerae, a pair of white fangs, and two white claws on each foot. However, it is shiny, its main body is roughly triangular, its spots are on the sides of its body, and each foot has two prongs on the inner side. On the flat top of its body is a large, glassy, dome-like structure that glows with purple energy from inside. Notably, the energy pulsates at a steady pace, almost like a heartbeat, and speeds up slightly when in pursuit of prey. At the creature's rear is a circular aperture that can dilate or contract as necessary to allow leaders through.

Because of its robotic nature, the Red Bulbot is essentially invulnerable without the proper offense. Throwing Pikmin at its eyes, or most any point on its body, has no effect, and neither does the venom of White Pikmin it eats. No part of its body can be damaged except for its dome, which can be shattered with repeated Rock Pikmin throws or Purple Pikmin pounds, a few hits from a rock, or instantly with very strong forms of blunt force. The most effective strategy would be to destroy its weakpoint while it sleeps, so the creature never becomes a problem in the first place. Immediately upon its weakpoint's destruction, which releases the energy within, the Red Bulbot will collapse in whichever direction it was moving and position it was in at the time. As it has no organic components for Onions to process into seeds, the Red Bulbot's body can instead be delivered to the Dolphin Lander for pokos and sparklium, as if it were a treasure.

In ultra-spicy difficulty, Red Bulbots occasionally initiate a brief self-destruct sequence shortly after defeat. This is indicated by the creature emitting a progressively intensifying dull hum and orange glow until it explodes approximately ten seconds later, leaving no salvageable remains whatsoever. Pikmin caught in the resulting blast will be killed.

Notes

  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #1 (all difficulties): The glowing purple dome on the Red Bulbot's back is the key to taking it out.
  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #2 (all difficulties): Very little will deter a Red Bulbot. Keep away if a means of defeating it isn't available.
  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #3 (all difficulties): If the Red Bulbot swallows a leader, the only option is to wait for them to be... "processed".
  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #4 (ultra-spicy difficulty only): Shortly after deactivating, a Red Bulbot may self-detonate. Run if it starts glowing orange!

Olimar's comments

PWW Captain Olimar icon.png How mystifying... this creature bears a slight resemblance to some of the toys I bought for my son and daughter when they were babies. Only now, it's many times the size and behaves like an actual grub-dog! Odd, considering it has no biological processes...

Shacho's comments

PWW President icon.png Oh, I just had a brilliant idea. We'll sneak inside the robot and control it from the inside! Nothing on this planet will ever suspect it's us! Now, to get in with it still active...

Marie's comments

PWW Marie icon.png Taming a normal animal isn't anything special, but this? This requires a technician to accomplish. There's no swaying a machine from its directives. That is, if it even has any. It might just act how it feels... just like... any other animal...

Dolphin Lander's comments

PWW Dolphin Lander icon.png It's unfortunate that this planet has so many partially or wholly mechanical creatures and all of them are wild animals. Can't I just have another artificial conscience to converse with?
