The Orange Bulborb has a general bulborb appearance, but has black skin, yellow, bloodshot eyes, and a backside that is orange with black spots, the total effect making it look somewhat like a ladybug. It has the same strategy that all bulborbs use for attacking, however, this is a unique bulborb subspecies in that it wakes up if its prey is within close range, and has slightly more health, making it difficult to defeat with the traditional bulborb-defeating tactics. It is otherwise the same as other bulborbs. Usually, when there is one of these around, it is almost sure that there may be many Dwarf Orange Bulborbs around.
In Pikmin 3, they have physical differences such as their head and face being more brownish. Their pupils have gained a more triangular shape as well. They can be found near Clovers, but regardless, they will still be able to see prey hiding under any plant.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- "This bulborb species boasts a garish color pattern, with a deep orange body and black spots. The orange bulborb's yellow, bloodshot eyes make it clear that this grub-dog is excessively edgy and high-strung, making it much easier to wake from deep sleep than other species in the grub-dog family."
Louie's notes
- "This bulborb's meaty flanks make for salaciously savory steaks that shouldn't be missed."
- "Structural flaw: eyeballs, back / Weight: 10 / I appreciate the warning coloration to let us know it's more dangerous than the other models. Anything that risky is best approached with a Bomb Rock while it sleeps."
- "It's lavishly colored and so anxiety-ridden that a few footsteps can wake it up instantly. Kind of like me! It's also a terror when it's awake, which, again, same."
- "Those bulging eyes are honed for battle, with no known blind spots. We often find them asleep, but they wake as soon as we get close. For all we know, they're only pretending to sleep to lull us into a false sense of security. Still, sometimes that one second where they're waking up is all we need to go in hard."

Notes
Tike's notes
- "According to Olimar, these guys have yellow eyes that help them see and sleep at the same time. It's odd but true. However, according to my speculations, they actually are born with an extra toe on the back of their legs, granting them great movement. In fact, they would be great jumpers, but their legs aren't as strong as a ninja bulborb's and so they cannot endure the landing."
Alice's notes
- "These guys eyes should be bloodshot for how long they go without sleeping. However, this makes them vicious hunters and if you're a zookeeper, keep this guy locked up good. They tend to be very protective of their young, as I notice the babies can simply cry for help, and they'll be on you like a hawk."
Captain Pikmin's notes
- "Since the babies can cry to awake the mother, the dwarfs have adapted this technique, so be sure to kill them first. Also make sure to get your green Pikmin, since this is usually no easy fight."

The Orange Bulborb is the middle-tier bulborb in Pikmin V, with the Hairy Bulborb now superseding it. Like the others, hitting its eyes to make it flinch and spit out Pikmin will only work once.
Notes
Brittany's notes
- "This species has evolved acute senses that allow it to detect predators before it's too late to defend itself while it sleeps. There is a theory that this change, along with the more conspicuous color scheme, is the result of their new predation by Pikmin."
Olimar's notes
- "Its increased senses will awaken it too early for the usual bulborb techniques. However, it is still wise to concentrate on its backside, so keep circling to it."
Louie's notes
- "The increased activity from its paranoid awakenings increases the beef in its hide, making for a richer, if fattier, alternative to regular bulborb meat."

In Pikmin: The After Years
Orange Bulborbs, in Pikmin: The After Years, appear in Freaky Forest, as well as the Cave of Screams, Carnivorous Cave, and Crawbster Cave.
In Pikmin: Attack of the Breadbugs
Orange Bulborbs make a reappearance in Pikmin: Attack of the Breadbugs. They can be found in both the Toxin Territory and the Toxin Chamber, where Dwarf Orange Bulborbs can also be found. A single Orange Bulborb is located in the Toxin Chamber, along with thirty Dwarf Orange Bulborbs. The Orange Bulborb in the Toxin Chamber drops the Toxin Legend Shard upon defeat. Orange Bulborbs may consume seven Pikmin at once, and they move slightly faster than a normal bulborb. Because of their edgy nature, Orange Bulborbs will awaken and give chase even when Captain Olimar or his Pikmin are a fair distance away from them. Orange Bulborbs also have the ability to yelp when their eyes are attacked. This attack causes Pikmin to scatter and flee, posing more of a threat to the survival of them. Captain Olimar cannot assist in carrying the corpse of an Orange Bulborb due to its large size.

Notes
Charlie’s notes
- "A very excitable creature, this beast should ideally be tackled by attacking the eyes. The purple Pikmin’s stun ability works wonders when facing these things."
Derrick’s notes
- "Within the skull of the creature lie two special organs, similar to what we Koppaites would call eardrums. Scoop out one of them with a spoon and marinate it in the yolks of common Eggs. After a week of marinating, the marinated eardrum should be dried in the sun to bring out its sweetness, and then it may be roasted and eaten to enhance your own hearing."

President's notes
- "These beasts seem to leave their eyes cracked when sleeping, which makes them perfect for guarding against treasure thieves."

Orange Bulborbs are more hostile members of the grub-dog family in Pikmin: Return to the Distant Planet. They have dark brown skin, yellow bloodshot eyes that glow in the darkness, and an orange backside with black spots. Orange Bulborbs can be found in milder, darker climates, sleeping during the day and starting to wake during the afternoon. In some areas, Orange Bulborbs take on the role of Spotty Bulbears, patrolling a set route in search of food. These creatures aren't usually found outside during winter and can be found sleeping in caves hibernating, only waking up to respond to danger.
Due to their more aggressive nature, and the fact that they're light sleepers, Orange Bulborbs aren't as susceptible to swarming as their more common red counterpart. If approached, they'll wake and quickly turn to make their way towards leaders or their Pikmin, making them much harder to deal with. However, much like their bulborb brethren, their eyes are a major weakpoint, and thus should be taken into consideration when facing such a foe. Orange Bulborbs also have the leathery hide that most other Bulborbs have, meaning attacks from the front deal much more damage than assaults to its posterior. In a pinch, feeding it a bomb rock will kill it immediately.

Orange Bulborbs, in Pikmin: Sinister Incinerator, appear in Penumbra Plains, as well as Predator’s Realm, Dark Forest Cave, Web of Terror, sublevels two and five of Behemoth's Lair, and sublevels one and four of Dark Desert Cave.

Orange Bulborbs are a variant of the Red Bulborb that appears in Pikmin: Treacherous Treasures, however, instead of having lighter skin, a red backside with white spots, and round pupils, it has dark brown skin, an orange backside with black spots, and triangular eyes. It acts similar to the Red Bulborb, but it can be woken up much easier and has more health, making it tougher to sneak up on it and to defeat it. It also can eat Pikmin faster than the Red Bulborb, making it more menacing overall.
The Orange Bulborb is fought similarly to the Red Bulborb; it is nocturnal, and thus will be found sleeping when it is encountered, and its eyes are a weak point that can be used to stun, and harm the beast, as well as free any Pikmin still in its mouth. Orange Bulborbs awaken by simply getting too close to them, leaving the berserker surprise attacks usually employed on bulborbs ineffective. Orange Bulborbs move slightly faster than Red Bulborbs, making it harder to evade. Orange Bulborbs flinch for a lesser amount of time compared to Red Bulborbs when hit in the eye.
In Pikmin: Wide World
The Orange Bulborb, in Pikmin: Wide World, is a grub-dog that is exclusive to Ancient Metalworks and its caves. The Dwarf Orange Bulborb is its dwarf counterpart, and the Empress Orange Bulblax is its fearsome matriarch. Orange Bulborbs can be host to parasitic Pikmin, which causes the existence of Orange Bulbmin. Orange Bulborbs can be found sleeping on land, either alone or in groups, sometimes accompanied by Dwarf Orange Bulborbs. They will awaken if they are touched, harmed, or hear a sound loud enough to rouse them from their sleep. Even approaching an Orange Bulborb too closely will cause it to wake up and begin hunting down and attacking Pikmin and leaders in its territory, which is larger than that of most other grub-dogs. Should they flee far enough away, an Orange Bulborb will seek a spot near its original resting position and resume its slumber there. Although purely coincidental, Bilious Bulbots, mechanical grub-dogs also found exclusively in Ancient Metalworks, vaguely resemble and behave similarly to Orange Bulborbs.
Orange Bulborbs, as their name would suggest, have an orange-colored backside. They have black skin, and the spots on their back are of the same color. The eyes of an Orange Bulborb are distinct from those of other grub-dogs as their sclerae are yellow instead of white. Their irises are orange, and their pupils are black. Orange Bulborbs have a single pair of white fangs, and each of their four claws is also white.
Attempting to take down an Orange Bulborb can be risky due to it waking up if a Pikmin or leader comes too close to it. A good strategy is to carefully sneak up behind it, without getting too close to it so as to avoid it waking prematurely, and rapidly throw Pikmin onto it. Another strategy is to charge Pikmin at it from behind. No matter the choice, any Orange Bulborb this is done to will have suffered critical damage by the time it can stand up and react. Although not recommended, Orange Bulborbs can be attacked from the front, and throwing Pikmin at its eyes will cause it pain, make it flinch, and free any Pikmin currently in its mouth. Upon death, an Orange Bulborb will yield
× 5. Aboveground, its corpse can be taken to either the Dolphin Lander for
× 8 or the Master Onion for ten Pikmin seeds. Underground, its body can be taken to the Lander Pod to either gain
× 8 or be stored for later to gain ten Pikmin seeds of choice from the Master Onion, but only if the cave is exited using an escape geyser.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- "This species of grub-dog is extremely anxious and tense and wakes up completely at the slightest disturbance. Because of this, it has extreme difficulty sleeping, even in the presence of other orange bulborbs. They can be characterized by their yellow eyes, which remain partially visible as the creatures sleep with their eyelids slightly open."
Shacho's notes
- "This creature reminds me of myself when I was being hunted down by those debt collectors years ago. I'd sleep when I could, where I could, and wake upon hearing the smallest of noises. I'd... rather forget about that. Luckily, Olimar and Louie worked hard to repay that debt, even if they could have done it a little faster... and harder."
Marie's notes
- "Orange bulborbs are notoriously high-strung and can only sleep comfortably around those they trust most. They usually wake up instantly upon feeling the slightest vibration, hearing the faintest noise, or detecting a hint of movement, but normally return to a light slumber right after. Tender love and care will calm this bulborb."
Louie's notes
- "Its excessive stress makes its meat tough. It makes for an excellent, juicy steak, however."
Dolphin Lander's notes
- "I feel pity of this grub-dog. It lives its entire life being on-edge, never seeming to find a moment of peace. Were orange bulborbs always like this, or did something cause such a change in their behavior?"
