The Deceptive Dweevil is a species Dweevil appearing in Pikmin 2... Again?. Resembling other lesser dweevils, the Deceptive Dweevil has a yellowish-gray exoskeleton, white eyes with no pupils, four legs, and its head in a crystal nodule. The Deceptive Dweevil disguises itself as a crystal nodule, just like how other dweevil species disguise themself as objects they are carrying. However, when approached, it'll get up, and rather than try to flee, will leap into the air in an attempt to crush Pikmin and severely injure leaders it lands on. Rock Pikmin will be only slightly buried before coming out of the ground by themselves, which can be sped up by whistling at them. To defeat the Deceptive Dweevil, Rock Pikmin will be needed to break the crystal nodule covering the Deceptive Dweevil, and once this is done, any Pikmin type can attack the creature.

The Deceptive Dweevil is a large, pitch-black member of the dweevil family in Pikmin E: Remastered. It has four shining white eyes, four legs, a bug-like maw, a gray tongue, and two appendages on the top of its head that resemble demon horns. Their legs, albeit not that long, allow them to dash across areas very quickly. It is never seen normally without some form of cover that blends in with their current environment, making them hard to spot at first. On rarer occasions, it'll even hide under fruits. When looked at by a leader, it stays perfectly still, however, upon looking away, it begins to slowly creep towards them. Once close enough, it reveals itself, flinging its disguise off of its back, and attempts to eat nearby leaders or pikmin whole. After a few seconds of being exposed, it'll dash away, and either return to its already existing disguise or find a new one.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “A particularly strange creature, choosing methods of sneaking up on you and jumping you when you least expect it. Quite odd compared to other members of the dweevil family.”
Louie's cookbook
- “Albeit seemingly inedible due to its hard shell, if boiled under water, the shell softens! Afterward, the meat of the main body can be eaten either raw or cooked as you would steak.”

Attacks | Crushes Pikmin |
The Deceptive Dweevil appears in Pikmin: Dusk and Dawn as a larger, black-and-dark-gray member of the dweevil family. It has four shining white eyes, and its chubby body resembles a pebble. It has four spindly legs that allow it to dash along the ground at incredible speeds. It is often difficult to see at first glance, due to it using terrain objects such as rocks or small trees as a cover for its body. On some rare occasions, it even hides under treasure. It lays low to the ground when dormant, almost invisible. When leaders and Pikmin look away, it slowly gets closer, creeping toward them. Once close enough, it springs up in an attempt to crush them with its cover. This can be avoided using the Dodge Whistle. It has a much larger, boss variant called the Deceptive Long Legs.
Its attack varies with its disguise, with some examples:
- Rocks: it springs up, hurling the rock into the air, and scurries away to avoid impact. The rock's shadow acts as an indicator of where it will land and should be avoided.
- Trees: it lifts its body, and lets the tree fall to the ground, crushing any Pikmin under it. Its shadow acts as an indicator.
- Treasure: depending on the width and length of the treasure, it will use it like either of the two aforementioned objects.
The best way to defeat it would be to attack it when it drops its object after an attack, as it scurries around for a moment before scuttling back under its disguise. It is somewhat hard to hit due to its high speeds and erratic movements.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “ Deceptive Dweevil / Mandarachnia terrarale / Dweevil family. It's a wonder how it manages to support such a large weight on its head without being crushed. Perhaps I should look into it more.”
Louie's notes
- “Boil for 30 minutes in water, then take it out once it has become a dark blue color, crack its limbs, and serve the meat that's inside of its tough exterior. Soy sauce is great as a dip.”
Chacho's notes
- “Its beautiful, shiny skin could be used for millions of things. I can't wait to get my hands on this fine specimen.”
S.S. Twilight's notes
- “Despite being so small and weak, the Deceptive Dweevil can easily carry the largest and heaviest of objects. Relative to their size, their muscles are documented to be the thickest and strongest of all muscles in every creature ever documented on PNF-404. This tends to be a reoccurring feature for most Dweevil species. An equivalent to this would be the average Hocotatian being able to carry a small spaceship. Deceptive Dweevils must keep their body mass intake in check, so they spend most of their day hunting for corpses of recently killed creatures. They can carry these corpses back to their nests to consume. This also doubles as a defense mechanism for the Deceptive Dweevil. Instead of using elements, the Deceptive Dweevil will throw extremely heavy objects like small logs or rocks at its attackers, or possible prey.
