Candypop Amber Candypop Bud

Claw Pikmin, also known as Orange Pikmin, is a Pikmin type appearing in Pikmin 2... Again?. As they lack their own Onion, they are obtained solely from Amber Candypop Buds, which grow only in caves. Claw Pikmin have orange skin, half-closed eyelids, claws instead of fingers, and wider arms than most other Pikmin, and are larger than most Pikmin types but not Purple Pikmin. Additionally, the front and back of a Claw Pikmin's torso are covered in defensive spikes. Claw Pikmin, as their name and namesake claws would imply, can dig the fastest of all Pikmin, even Yellow Pikmin, Rock Pikmin, and the Green Pikmin. They can also dig out tunnels for other Pikmin and leaders to pass through, dig through harder materials such as stone, and cut through nets. Claw Pikmin can inflict much damage to enemies they are latched onto, as their spikes will dig into the flesh and they can hit the enemy twice in succession with their claws, dealing in total the same damage as Purple Pikmin but having a below-average hit rate. Additionally, because of their spikes, Claw Pikmin can not be trapped in bubbles, popping them on contact. Additionally, an enemy that tries to eat a Claw Pikmin will take damage, and stop for a few seconds before spitting them out alongside any other Pikmin in their mouth. However, after being spat out, the Claw Pikmin will no longer have its spikes, rendering them vulnerable to being eaten by enemies and trapped in bubbles, and severely reducing their offensive potential by forcing them to strike with their stems. The only ways for a Claw Pikmin to recover their spikes is for it to consume nectar or to wait until the following day. Additionally, they are resistant to sand, making them useful against sand enemies, and can not sink in quicksand, so only they can destroy sand mounds to stop their flow of quicksand.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Claw Pikmin / Pikminidae asphalax / Pikmin family. This species of Pikmin is interesting. I thought only Yellow, Rock, and Green Pikmin dug the fastest. This one has proven me wrong; with those claws, they are the best! They can also use their claws for offense, striking twice at any threat. In addition, they have eyelids, which are needed for their subterranean lifestyle so dirt, sand, or other particles can't get in their eyes while they dig, which be problematic. They also have spikes on their torso that acts as armor, making creatures that try to eat them spit them out again, and bubbles no trouble at all. That said, when spat out, they lose their spikes, rendering them vulnerable until they recover, such as from nectar consumption or in the Onion during the night. I also noticed they are unaffected by sand, and don't sink in quicksand.

Louie's notes

I wouldn't dare. It would be painful with those sharp-looking spikes.

Candypop Ebony Candypop Bud

Clawed Pikmin are the second new type of Pikmin in Pikmin V, first discovered in Mad Jungle. Their Onion is the Black Onion and their candypop bud is the Ebony Candypop Bud. A Clawed Pikmin's head and body are round, making it slightly shorter than usual, and are predictably colored black. Just like Orange Pikmin, it has a maroon flower. Its main feature is the large claws that are on its hands. These claws allow it to stick to foes it is latched on to, cut thin materials like webs and vines, and climb certain rocky surfaces. However, they also interfere with carrying objects, so it takes up two carrying spaces on objects and therefore cannot carry objects with a maximum carrier limit of one, like bomb rocks and fragments. It is also somewhat weaker than the other types of Pikmin.
