Bulbearmin appear in Pikmin 251 as a close relative of the Bulbmin. It inhabits caves only, and wanders about portions of a sublevel accessible to it. Upon seeing or detecting Pikmin or leaders, an adult Bulbearmin will pursue and attempt to bite or eat them.

Accompanying each adult can be up to ten juveniles, although if too many Pikmin are already present in the sublevel, fewer juveniles will be present, with a minimum of zero following an adult. The juvenile Bulbearmin are harmless. They will not attack Pikmin or leaders, or defend their elder from attack, simply watching from a small distance away. After the adult Bulbearmin's defeat, the juveniles will panic, although at this point they can be whistled to soothe them and call them to the side of the leader that whistled them. Juvenile Bulbmin are resistant to fire, electricity, water, and poison, making them extremely useful. Because the juveniles can not be brought out from a cave, throwing them into candypop buds is recommended if they have no further use.

Adult and juvenile Bulbearmin alike strongly resemble Spotty Bulbears and Dwarf Bulbears, respectively, although a diminished size. Strangely, they have the physiology of a bulborb rather than a bulbear, and the closest they have to lips is the odd skin under their bottom jaw.

Adult Bulbearmin can be often be killed relatively quickly with no issue. Throwing Pikmin on top of one is recommended, although they can sometimes manage to eat a few Pikmin anyway. Because of this, having leaders punch it may be preferred as it negates the risk of losing Pikmin to it and takes roughly as long to kill the creature as it does with Pikmin. Unlike the Spotty Bulbear, the Bulbearmin does not revive after death.

In the 2-Player Battle stage Broken Bulbmin, Bulbearmin have strange, game-breaking behaviors. Juvenile Bulbearmin can be taken from their parent while it is still alive, and although they are friendly to leaders, they are hostile towards other Pikmin, even those on the same team as their commanding leader, which is due to 2-Player Battle's rules regarding hostility between Pikmin types. Furthermore, when a juvenile dies, the game crashes trying to respawn it at a nonexistent Onion. Lastly, Bulbearmin are capable of carrying one team's Gyro Block and bringing it to their opponent's Onion.

Notes

Olimar's observations

Since our last journey, it appears that these parasitic Pikmin have taken to a new host, one stronger than their old host. Although the mothers are strong, the children seem about the same. Perhaps they need more time to gain their new strength?

Due to the meaty taste of the leaf, you can make a leaf-only salad for even the pickiest of eaters!

Bulbearmin are a parasitic species of Pikmin in Pikmin 3: The Dweevil's Revenge that infected a Spotty Bulbear, taking control of it. After death, an adult Bulbearmin will begin its revival process, making removing its body crucial to avoid an additional conflict with the creature. Despite this characteristic, the juvenile Bulbearmin, if any, accompanying it panic anyway, and continue doing so if allowed to even when the adult Bulbearmin previously leading them had managed to revive. This allows the juveniles to be used against an adult Bulbearmin they accompanied previously.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This Pikmin is, like the bulbmin, parasitic. It has taken control of a bulbear and decided to live in it. However, the juveniles only seem to settle down if whistled. The leader heals, so watch out, Louie!

Black Bearmin return in Pikmin: Dimensional Breach, renamed from Bulbearmin. Like any other Bulbmin breed in this game, Black Bearmin can be taken out of caves and stored in the S.S. Drake, and they can be created by feeding a juvenile Black Bulbear a few Green Pikmin. They retain their boosted attack strength, but they are immune only to fire, water, electricity, and sand. In exchange, they now follow their leaders more closely and defend them from attackers. Adult Black Bearmin also regenerate health until they are killed.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This loathsome creature is in fact a parasitic form of Pikmin that has infected a juvenile black bulbear. Unlike Pikmin that nest in onions, this parasitic relative spends its life inside the body of a host, in this case, a bulbear. Juveniles fall in line and mimic the actions of their parent until maturing to full independence. This particular breed has inherited its host's bouts of indefatigability, making it exponentially more dangerous to attackers than other breeds.

Louie's notes

Saute until crisp and apply generous helpings of apple juice for a dish that you will totally crave.

Sagittarius' comments

This particular creature should be kept outside, with ample shade and fresh water. Any nearby juveniles should be kept near a parent until they mature. Pacify with a whistle periodically for a loyal pet and burglar-hunter.

Libra's comments

The creature's hide brings to mind the dark arts. I would skin it myself, but I don't feel good about hurting the Pikmin inside.

Charlie's comments

Get behind for the advantage! Attack furiously to overpower its healing! Whistle the children for more soldiers!

Derrick's notes

The Pikmin stem is best severed when a brilliant pink flower blooms from the tip. If the stem is not flowered yet, soak the corpse in nectar regularly. Once it is severed, the petals should be removed and ground in a mortar and pestle. The stem itself should be finely chopped, and the two mixed in a wooden bowl with fresh spring water. Once the concoction is consumed, you should feel a surge of energy.
