Captain Olimar, commonly called Olimar, is the main character of the Pikmin series. He was the one who discovered the Planet of the Pikmin. He works at Hocotate Freight and owns and captains his ship, the S.S. Dolphin, in the first Pikmin game. He has a family (wife, son and daughter) on Hocotate. According to the notes on the Worthless Statue and the Priceless Statue, Olimar has a father who may seem useless to him and a mother who is deceased. In-game, Olimar's dialogue of notes to himself are in Pikmin 1 only; in the second game, they are replaced by the Ship's.

Biography
Captain Olimar, also referred to as simply Olimar, is the main protagonist of the Pikmin series. He is from the planet Hocotate, and while on several missions for his employer, Hocotate Freight, he discovered PNF-404 and all types of Pikmin so far. In p1, he owns and captains a spaceship called the S.S. Dolphin, and in hp, he owns and captains the S.S. Dolphin II. He has a family back on Hocotate, which includes his wife, son, daughter, and dog. In p4, while stranded on PNF-404, Olimar befriends a curious canine that he names Moss, and subsequently becomes a leafling but is later cured by the Rescue Corps.
spoiler
An unexpected adventure
Captain Olimar was going to take a vacation away from Hocotate and relax from work for a few days. As he was flying his personal ship, the S.S. Dolphin, to his destination, a meteor was heading towards him. Having little notice, Olimar's ship collided with the meteor, causing the Dolphin to fall and start to burn as it was crashing down to an unknown planet. This planet was infested with giant plants and poisonous oxygen. Olimar was knocked out as the ship crashed on the ground, and he was thrown out of his unusable spacecraft.

From shipwrecked to shipshape
In the bad ending of p1, when the S.S. Dolphin fails to take off and crashes on the planet again, Captain Olimar becomes a Pikmin, dubbed by fans as Pikmar or Olimin. Olimar is then carried to the Red Onion by some Pikmin and ejected as a seed consisting of only his head and a small stem with a leaf. He is only ever seen buried, so the rest of his appearance is unknown. Why the Onion transforms him instead of turning him into Pikmin seeds is unknown. However, the Pikmin silently watch as he is spat out and cheer as he begins to grow, indicating that they expected the transformation to occur. As such, the process may be controlled by the Pikmin themselves.
Fortunately for Olimar, he was able to wake up from his crash, but he became hopeless, as his ship was stuck in the ground. While he was exploring an area he called the Impact Site, he met creatures called Pikmin at an unoccupied Onion. The Red Pikmin were able to reproduce more Pikmin, so Olimar was able to find some useful helpers on the planet. As the Pikmin could perform many talented deeds on this world, he was able to find the Dolphin's Main Engine resting in front of his eyes. The Pikmin helped him find it and bring it back to his ship, letting the Dolphin at least lift off. As he was looking for more parts, he discovered more Pikmin, including Yellow Pikmin and Blue Pikmin in two different areas. The wildlife he encountered intrigued him; they were nothing like he had ever seen. The creatures were no match for the Pikmin he commanded, for the Pikmin defeated them and took their bodies to their Onions, in order to produce more Pikmin. Luckily for Olimar, he was able to find all 30 on the planet and restore his ship's damage. Before he left, he took a bottle cap from the planet and took notes on the wildlife.

Olimar's possible failure
<gallery>
Should Olimar fail to get all mandatory parts by day 30, he will suffer a poisoning from the oxygen. He will try to fly off, but his ship will crash. His Pikmin will then bring his body to an Onion, which now turns him into a seed that grows to have Olimar's head, along with a stem and leaf. This is, of course, not canonical with the real storyline.

Return to Hocotate
__TOC__
After Olimar's success at the Pikmin planet, he was able to blast off the planet to return to Hocotate, see his family and return to his normal life. Deciding to land at Hocotate Freight, he met up with the President of Hocotate Freight and a new employee named Louie. After landing his ship, he learned that the company was in debt, having to pay 10,100 Pokos for the loss of a golden Pikpik carrot shipment (which was actually caused, not by "Space Bunnies" as Louie claimed, but Louie himself). Learning that the Dolphin was sold to pay the debt, Olimar was so shocked he dropped a souvenir for his son. As the bottle cap rolled past Louie, an old ship commonly called the Ship was able to use its Research Pod to suck up the rusty bottle cap. The Pod analyzed the piece of salvage to be worth 100 Pokos, which lowered the debt to 10,000 Pokos. The President commanded Olimar and Louie to return to the Pikmin Planet and collect more treasure.

Paying off Hocotate Freight's debt
In Pikmin 8: The World Beyond
As Olimar and Louie were heading to the Valley of Repose, Louie fell out of the cockpit and Olimar had to search for him. Luckily for Olimar, he found Red Pikmin fighting a Dwarf Red Bulborb. He was able to unite with Louie by using the loyal Reds. They were also able to find a treasure called the Courage Reactor and start their adventure. As they were able to make movements in Awakening Wood and Perplexing Pool, the debt lowered to a small amount. In the end, Olimar and Louie were able to pay the debt. Olimar blasted off the planet, but noticed that he left Louie behind, but at too late a time to go back and rescue Louie immediately.

The search for Louie
In Pikmin E
After meeting the President once again to present him with all the treasures he and Louie found, the debt was paid. The President also said that he would join Olimar to search for Louie. The two went to the Wistful Wild to start their search and find more treasure, to make their company wealthier than ever before. They both were able to find Louie in Wistful Wild, in the Dream Den, on top of a gigantic Titan Dweevil. Olimar and the President were able to rescue Louie, although there are hints that Louie was, in reality, controlling the Dweevil.

After the three tired captains returned to Hocotate, the President was kidnapped and the criminal wanted 20,000 pokos for the safe return of the President. So Olimar grabbed his son and went to the Pikmin Planet to get more treasures. Later, the pokos were paid and President was safe.

Just after the criminal was paid, he went to Hocotate Frieght and robbed money from the official vault. Olimar alone chased the Robber to space, then over the Pikmin planet. A meteor hit the criminal's spacecraft and he fell to the Planet. Olimar landed on the Distant Planet and pursued the robber, who had befriended Purple and White Pikmin. Olimar found the Red, Yellow, and Blue Pikmin. When Olimar tried to control the Purple and White Pikmin, it failed.

After Olimar's daring rescue for his family, he decided to carefully fly above the Pikmin Planet. As he flew past a coast he saw what looked like a gigantic metal structure slowly sink into the water as a hurricane raged. The Dolphin got caught up in the hurricane before Olimar could react. Even so, he managed to pilot it steadily so that it didn't plummet into the ocean and sink.A few days after the storm subsided, Olimar still had not woken from his coma in the fortunately unharmed Dolphin. Louie had been sent by the President of Hocotate Freight to ensure that no harm had come to his most valuable employee in the Hocotate Ship with the Research Pod. The same day he arrived nearby where the Dolphin had landed, Olimar woke back up. After reuniting and discovering a strange mechanism (and meeting some Red Pikmin) they sent back a message to the President that they would investigate the mystery of the potentially deadly "metal phantom ship" and additionally return with a haul of new and scientifically valuable artifacts, showing him a picture of the odd mechanism. That meant treasure to him, so he agreed to let Olimar and Louie stay on the Distant Planet for the time being. And so, a new adventure began.

Olimar as a Pikmin, taking the name Olimin, appears as the boss of the Nightmarish Nest, a dungeon located in the Awakening Garden. He has a dirty, damaged version of Olimar's spacesuit covered in tears, revealing scars underneath. The helmet has been almost completely shattered, leaving only the piece of metal and whistle that Olimin needs to command the Pikmin. Olimin's leaf has blossomed into a bright red flower, and his gloves have given way to sharp claw-like thorns. Olimin serves as a mirror of Olimar, commanding his own army of Pikmin to attack the captains. After defeating Olimin, either by depleting his health or by defeating all one hundred of his Pikmin, he unleashes a ghastly scream and shatters into nothingness, leaving behind the Massage Machine. Considering both the way he dies and that he exists despite Olimar being alive and well, it's obvious that Olimin is nothing more than an illusion created by Derrick.

Olimar is a playable character in the Wii title Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He commands his Pikmin in battle, and is almost entirely dependent on them. Olimar is able to pluck new Pikmin from the ground at any time, and he can have up to six with him at once. The Pikmin, as in the original series, are fragile and can be defeated easily, but each of the five colors have special unique properties (for example, the Red Pikmin are stronger than average and have fire-based attacks, as well as resistance to flame). Olimar’s Final Smash is called End of Day, during which he leaves the arena via his spaceship as night falls. The players left behind are attacked by feeding Bulborbs, and can be further damaged when Olimar’s ship returns and explodes on impact. Although Olimar's Pikmin are left behind too, they go unharmed.

Eventually, on the night of the defeat of the Greater Bulbot in Ancient Metalworks, Olimar is unusually the last leader to board the Dolphin Lander. Unfortunately, Olimar never can board the ship. The very same Plasm Wraith that had so obsessively held Olimar captive had found him again and abducted him. As it turns out, the Plasm Wraith had been lurking behind the Dolphin Lander every night she landed in that area, in the form of the Plasm Goolix, waiting for the chance to strike. Olimar could not call out for help because the creature had enveloped him and muffled his whistle. The Dolphin Lander and Master Onion could not wait for Olimar any longer and took off without him to avoid the hostile nocturnal wildlife on the planet's surface. Shacho, alarmed and hysterical, dreads the fate of his only reliable and sane employee. Marie worries about Olimar's fate but is completely unaware of Olimar's history with the Plasm Wraith. Louie, in classic fashion, only acknowledges the incident but does not appear impacted by it. The following day, Shacho, Marie, and Louie rush out of the Dolphin Lander and notice a trail of plasm blobs. When approached, some of these blobs animate and merge to form Plasm Illusions. The three Hocotatians gather their Pikmin and follow the trail of plasm to rescue Olimar. When they finally defeat the Plasm Wraith and ensure it is dead, it leaves behind Olimar, as well as a golden cube that can be taken for Pokos or Pikmin seeds.

Captain Olimar, also referred to as simply Olimar, is the main protagonist of the Pikmin series. He is from the planet Hocotate, and while on several missions for his employer, Hocotate Freight, he discovered PNF-404 and all types of Pikmin so far. In Pikmin 1, he owns and captains a spaceship called the S.S. Dolphin, and in Hey! Pikmin, he owns and captains the S.S. Dolphin II. He has a family back on Hocotate, which includes his wife, son, daughter, and dog. In Pikmin 4, while stranded on PNF-404, Olimar befriends a curious canine that he names Moss, and subsequently becomes a leafling but is later cured by the Rescue Corps.

In the bad ending of Pikmin 1, when the S.S.

Captain Olimar is the main protagonist of Pikmin: Attack of the Breadbugs. Olimar buys back his trusty ship, the S.S. Dolphin, from the Hocotate government. As he is reunited with his beloved ship, Olimar decides to visit the Distant Planet once again. What he discovers the more he ventures to the Pikmin Planet will shock him. Olimar keeps all of the upgrades he has obtained in Pikmin 2, and thus has more power. In Pikmin: Attack of the Breadbugs, Captain Olimar reunites with the fire-resistant Red Pikmin, the shockingly useful Yellow Pikmin, the waterproof Blue Pikmin, the small White Pikmin, and the loveable Purple Pikmin. He also discovers yet another member of the Pikmin species: the cold-resistant Cyan Pikmin. Olimar can utilize these six Pikmin species and reduce the varieties of breadbug that overpopulate the Land of Wonders, but they will return eventually. Captain Olimar can also assist Pikmin in carrying objects. Olimar only has a carrying capacity of one and cannot carry objects by himself. Captain Olimar can only assist in carrying smaller enemy corpses and legend shards. Olimar cannot help Pikmin carry large or boss corpses. Olimar can carry bridge fragments with another Pikmin, and will automatically follow the path the assisted Pikmin is following. Pikmin can also be assisted in plucking nectar weed and destroying rubble using his hands.

Captain Olimar returns as the main protagonist of Pikmin: Dimensional Breach, as the first of two captains that the player starts with, the other being Alph. The main story was that he was taking his children on vacation across the stars as a present for their sixteenth birthday, but unfortunately someone shot down his new S.S. Dolphin II as it was passing over PNF-404, and now he has to not only repair his ship but also help the three Koppaite explorers with their supply run and find one million Pokos-worth of treasure to replace the lost money in his Secret Safe.

Notes

Olimar's observations

I will not even bother with the scientific angle, for I am far too shaken by the appearance of this phantasm. When we initially encountered the phantom, I initially assumed that it was another adventurer stranded on this planet, but as soon as it approached, the resemblance was all too clear, as was its hostility. As soon as we had felled the beast and its own army of Pikmin, it disappeared, just like those illusions we keep seeing around the world this time around. Thankfully, it was simply a phantom, but this comes with its own unsettling implications; for example, whoever's been creating these illusions knows what I look like, and even knows that I may have once faced the threat of death and being transformed into a Pikmin. I can't imagine who or what is responsible for this, but I am undoubtedly going to have nightmares about this for ages.

Louie's cookbook

Inedible. Preparation would break moral code. Wait, why did I even write that; this one's not even real!

Sagittarius' Taming Notes

Wow. That creature looked just like dad. If it wasn't just an illusion created by whoever's been trying to stop us in our adventure, maybe we could have reasoned with it. We could have been friends, and maybe even reintegrated it into Hocotatian society. But I know that dad wouldn't leave us like this... right?

Libra's fashion notes

Talk about a copycat; this illusion looks just like my father! Not to rag on father's fashion sense, but the specimen could at least have sewn up those nasty tears in his space suit before the battle.

Charlie's battle strategies

This unfortunate phantom commands its own army of phantasmal Pikmin, just like our very own Olimar. I don't know what's worse: that the phantom looked exactly like Olimar as a Pikmin, or that it was immediately hostile towards us. Perhaps its appearance is meant to be poetic, hinting that deep down, Olimar and his Pikmin are not so different? ...Or maybe I'm just reading too deep into the little things. Who knows?

Derrick's grimoire

I made this phantasmal decoy in the image of the Chosen One, the one who would bring me to ruin. I had to specially prepare an effigy of its form, combining a skeleton of hearty roots, muscles of Bulborb meat, a suit made from scraps of material from less fortunate adventurers, and a freshly-slain Female Sheargrub for a head, topped off with a nose made from an Ultra-Spicy Berry Concealed within the heart of the effigy was a sample of Lord Plasm's essence, the one substance on this planet with definitive genetic ties to the Chosen One. Once the effigy was completed, I simply tricked a squadron of Red Pikmin into taking it to their Onion, and the marvels of Pikmin biology did the rest.

In Pikmin: Distant Planet, after Captain Olimar's daring rescue for his family, he decided to carefully fly above the Pikmin Planet. As he flew past a coast he saw what looked like a gigantic metal structure slowly sink into the water as a hurricane raged. The S.S. Dolphin got caught up in the hurricane before Olimar could react. Even so, he managed to pilot it steadily so that it didn't plummet into the ocean and sink. A few days after the storm subsided, Olimar still had not woken from his coma in the fortunately unharmed S.S. Dolphin. Louie had been sent by the President of Hocotate Freight to ensure that no harm had come to his most valuable employee in the Hocotate ship with the Research Pod. The same day he arrived nearby where the S.S. Dolphin had landed, Olimar woke back up. After reuniting and discovering a strange mechanism and meeting some Red Pikmin, they sent back a message to the President that they would investigate the mystery of the potentially deadly metal phantom ship and additionally return with a haul of new and scientifically valuable artifacts, showing him a picture of the odd mechanism. That meant treasure to him, so he agreed to let Olimar and Louie stay on the Distant Planet for the time being. And so, a new adventure began.

Captain Olimar appears in Pikmin: Wide World as one of four playable leaders, with him and Shacho being the two initial playable leaders. His suit is cream-colored with red details, and his backpack and beacon are both red in color. Olimar's whistle sounds like a normal pea whistle. Olimar records notes detailing the biology of the lifeforms of the alien planet he is all too familiar with. Back home, on Hocotate, he has a wife, Margot, a son, Sagittarius, a daughter, Libra, and a family pet, Bulbie. Shacho considers him as his most competent, reliable, and trustworthy employee, and a good friend. Marie idolizes him and regards him as a courageous hero, and she envies Margot for being his wife. Louie considers him as his best and only friend.

Immediately after being dropped off on the lot of his place of work by the Koppaite trio of Alph, Brittany, and Captain Charlie using the S.S. Drake, Olimar is immediately confronted by his boss.
