The Tusked Blowhog is a boar-like blowhog that charges forward when provoked and eats Pikmin. It typically wanders about in a small territory until Pikmin or leaders catch its attention, whereupon it will open its mouth while charging forward, eventually skidding to a halt. The charge will launch Pikmin, Oatchi, and leaders into the air. As it begins its charge, it can catch Pikmin in its mouth and will begin eating them after it stops moving.

Rush is the Tusked Blowhog that appears in Pikmin: Antarctic Survival. He is one of the initial characters that start Awakened and usable from the beginning of the story.

Rush was the first creature to be Awakened by Tatoursin, soon after Tatoursin escaped his containment in the Ruins of Awakening. While Tatoursin was fleeing from the Ruins, he encountered and accidentally enraged Rush, who began to attack Tatoursin in his anger. Tatoursin was forced to fight back against the persistent Tusked Blowhog, eventually overpowering him in the battle and accidentally causing Rush to become Awakened. The resulting unconsciousness inflicted upon Rush was enough to calm him down from his anger, and after regaining consciousness, Rush found Tatoursin again and confronted him in an attempt to figure out what had happened to him, as Rush was aware of his heightened intelligence and perception as a result of the condition Tatoursin inflicted upon him. Tatoursin wasn't sure what he had done at first, but quickly realized that whatever had happened to Rush left Rush in the same state of being as himself. The two of them decided to join forces, though initially reluctantly on Rush's part, and began to roam the Antarctic together.

As the first creature that Tatoursin Awakened, Rush sees himself in an important role among Tatoursin's allies. He considers himself the second-in-command of the group and Tatoursin's right-hand hog, though he doesn't usually state this to others, believing it to be assumed. Rush considers himself very realistic in his views and motivations, in which he focuses on survival and making sure the group is well-stocked and protected from danger. Rush does not entirely share Tatoursin's philosophy of making a settlement of all sorts of creatures living in harmony, instead wanting a well-defended encampment with a group of only creatures that can be useful and contribute to the settlement more than they require. As a result of this disagreement, Rush will occasionally disagree with Tatoursin's decisions and actions toward growing the Diamond Settlement, particularly and especially when Tatoursin Awakens and recruits small, weak, or undesirable creatures that Rush sees as unwanted liabilities. This sometimes leads to Rush and Tatoursin having arguments with one another concerning the future of the Diamond Settlement. These arguments do not usually become too heated but can drive a temporary wedge between the two of them. However, despite their disagreements, Rush sees Tatoursin as one of his closest friends and allies, and is willing to confide in him, which is something Rush doesn't really do with anyone else.

Rush is generally aloof and cold toward other creatures besides Tatoursin. He will typically not interact much with new residents, other than in a professional setting to fill them in on survival information which is important for newly Awakened creatures to know. Once the new residents have been around for a significant amount of time, if they are able to prove themselves as making meaningful contributions to the group's survival, Rush will hold a more favorable view of them. Even despite this, Rush is still not talkative with these individuals, as he doesn't speak much in general. He will sometimes give these residents he deems "more useful" a nod of approval or even a few words of encouragement, but not much more.

Rush is quiet, stern, and always has his thoughts on survival in the hostile Antarctic environment. He doesn't have much of a sense of humor or fun, and views displays of such as a childish waste of time. He respects hard work and determination, and persistence in the face of challenges. He views excessive optimism as naive and foolish, as can be shown by his disagreements with Tatoursin over the purpose of the Diamond Settlement, with Tatoursin's ideal of the Settlement eventually becoming a home to every creature in the Antarctic, while Rush wants to see it become a well-defended and well-designed site where hard-working residents can find purpose and security.

Other residents besides Tatoursin tend to view Rush as something of a rude and abrasive person, as a result of Rush's nature and personality. Yuki knows that there's more to him than this, and often tries to cheer him up or get him to act more lively as they interact. Rush typically just views these attempts at improving his mood as annoying and unnecessary, and typically just ignores it. Rush typically makes an effort, though often a reluctant one, to be somewhat nicer to Yuki than he is to most other residents. This is because Yuki has been around for long enough for Rush to know she's a valued member of the team despite her young age and naivety, and also to some extent because Rush is very intimidated by Yuki's mother.

Ultimately, despite Rush's unpleasant personality, Rush is incredibly loyal to and protective of his team. Rush is the first to charge into danger to protect the other members of his team, and will often personally caution them against any expeditions and objectives that he deems dangerous. Rush exhibits these behaviors mainly toward members of the team that have been around for longer, and those who have unique and valuable talents among the settlement's residents. This loyalty does not merely come from Rush's viewing of his allies as "useful", though, as Rush does genuinely care about the well-being of his teammates, especially Tatoursin and Yuki. When these two are in danger, Rush often acts uncharacteristically agitated and protective, willing to jump into harm's way to help them get to safety.

Rush's name comes from his main attack, which is his rush technique. This rush is a bit stronger than that of a standard Tusked Blowhog, and can also shatter clay pots and other similar objects on the field. Notably, Rush takes minor damage when using this technique in battle, to compensate for its high power.

Attacks Charges and eats Pikmin

The Tusked Blowhog is a returning species of blowhog in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. It resembles its original counterpart in Pikmin 4. The creature will wander around, waiting for Pikmin to approach. If it spots Pikmin, it will charge them ferociously, knocking them around the area. It will toss a few it has grabbed into the air and into its mouth, eating them for a few seconds. If the blowhog misses, it will skid to a halt and pant for a few seconds before charging again, and if the creature runs into a wall, it will be stunned for a few seconds, leaving an opening for an attack. Occasionally, it will charge a much smaller enemy like a Dwarf Bulborb, Sheargrub, or Skitter Leaf and then proceed to eat them, allowing for it to be attacked. If uninterrupted, it will fully consume its prey, leaving no corpse behind and even healing the blowhog. A Fur Pikmin can hold onto a Tusked Blowhog when it is charging, making it a good counter for the creature.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This extremely aggressive blowhog species seems to target just about anything it wants. Even larger enemies can be driven away by this creature's large tusks. Despite their naming similarity, the Tusked Blowhog is part of a completely different family. They do, however, share the same genus as other blowhogs.

Louie's notes

This creature's meat is very delicious, but its bones are packed with flavor. It's best to use its bones and meat for blowhog stock. Add garlic, parsley, and figwort for added flavor, and let it simmer for a few days.

President’s notes

This creature's ferocious personality would make it a good guard animal for my secret safe! Well... it's technically not secret if someone broke into it... Forget what I said.
