The Marbled Curdback is an enemy in Pikmin: Interstellar Cryptid. It is a brown tapir-like creature with blue eyes and a massive, fatty hide. This hide has white and yellow patterns that make it resemble colby jack cheese. Its trunk doubles as both its nose and mouth, and it can slurp up three Pikmin at once. It needs to get close enough to do this, so it can be easy to outmaneuver it. The Marbled Curdback can also release an orange cloud of foul odor that functions like a repellant, which is a weaker form of panic that merely makes Pikmin try to get away from the source in distaste, similar to a Fearbloom. Because repellant is just a variant of panic, Pumpkin Pikmin are the best counter against the Marbled Curdback.

Notes

Olimar's notes

A species of ungulate that lives in warmer climates. This creature's nasal cavity also doubles as its mouth, and as tastes and smells are essentially the same thing, its olfactory epithelium essentially doubles as a tongue. Ironically, one of its main defense mechanisms is releasing a foul-smelling odor from a gland hidden under its fatty hide of blubber. Due to the humid atmosphere of its environment, the smell of this odor is often worsened, to the creature's advantage.

Louie's notes

A cheesesteak out of this creature just feels right, and everyone must try it at least once! The hide can also be turned into a lard substitute.

Bentley's notes

I'm more than intrigued to find out what this creature eats. Do you think it eats naturally occurring cheese? Looks like I got some more cryptozoology to do on the side!

Eloise's notes

It might smell foul, but it looks so gentle. Maybe if we gave it a bath it could be more approachable... Nevermind, I wouldn't want to remove its central defense.
