The Rescue Officer, known also as the player avatar and unofficially as Pom, is a character in Pikmin 4 whose name, gender, and appearance can be customized. By default, the Rescue Officer has a feminine appearance and a red spacesuit. She is the newest recruit to the Rescue Corps, sent to PNF-404 to rescue the team from a crash landing after trying to rescue Captain Olimar for the same reason. With the help of Oatchi, the Rescue Officer is tasked with rescuing every member of the Rescue Corps, finding as many castaways as possible, and later, rescuing leaflings to cure. Unlike other characters, the Rescue Officer is silent for the majority of the time, only communicating with others through on-screen text prompts.
