The Yolky Filthag is an enemy in Pikmin: Interstellar Cryptid. It's a small blob of a yellow, nectar-like substance using the bottom portion of a nectar egg as a helmet. It has a single purple eye peering out of the shell and a long tendril. Some small nectar eggs may contain these creatures. When such an egg is broken, only the top half will shatter and the bottom will flip upside down. It will reveal both its tentacle and eye from the shell and begin encroaching on the squad. It leaves behind a trail of adhesive residue as it moves. If it reaches the squad, it will act like a Lesser Filthag, grabbing a Pikmin, trapping them in a ball of nectar, and throwing it at the rest of the squad, leaving a puddle of sticky nectar. The issue of the Yolky Filthag is that they're very tenacious foes, going to the ends of an area, scaling walls and jumping across pits to reach them. When their shell is broken, they will seep into the ground, leaving no soul to speak of. Pikmin that touch any of its nectar will instantly bloom.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “The high sugar content in the body of this creature makes it particularly desirable amongst nectar-feeding organisms, even more so than the common honeywisp in areas where they intersect. A source of nectar as easy as this lurching slime is often sought after, as the substance is crucial to all ecosystems on this planet. What keeps it from being a keystone species, however, is the high amount of vegetation that bears the same substance, such as nectar grass and pellet posies. Being a phestank, it can be host to numerous deadly pathogens and microbacteria if environmental factors are particularly dire. Because of this, it is recommended that castaways abstain from turning to this creature unless they're really out of other options.”
Louie's notes
- “If you could freeze its body, any harmful bacteria would die out. Wouldn't say there's any advantage to using this over other nectar sources, though.”
Bentley's notes
- “The primordial ooze that brought forth all living creatures has sprung back into prominence. Creatures of this type are rare back home, so these are incredibly unique for me.”
Eloise's notes
- “These gooey creatures are... making me feel weird. Something's welling up in my gut... I don't like it...”
