The Iridescent Flint Grub is an enemy in Pikmin: Interstellar Cryptid. It is a larval Iridescent Flint Beetle with a color scheme resembling its adult counterpart, possessing a green body with spiracles, four orange feet, and a blue head. It often remains buried in the ground, randomly coming out at specific times of the day like in the afternoon. In caves, the Iridescent Flint Grub appears out of the ground already. They often scuttle about in a centralized area, and on the surface specifically, go back in the ground once the countdown to sunset begins. Defeating them rewards the squad with a wealth of nectar and a nutrient rich body, but if approached, they'll quickly scurry away before going back into the ground, not reappearing until two in-game days have elapsed. Using galvanic charges helps, as they will stun the creature and leave it vulnerable. Trackonators also outpace Iridescent Flint Grubs and instantly kill them with the explosions they create.

Iridescent Flint Grubs also have variants based on other flint beetles, such as the Iridescent Glint Grub, the Doodlegrub, and the Ashzoa.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This young flint beetle of the "seed pod" species does not have the perserving membrane its further molts do. Due to this, it's constantly on search for nectar sources whenever it's not sleeping. Furthermore, it's diurnal rather than nocturnal, as the day of this planet is remarkably less dangerous for this creature than the night is. In spite of this, the grub nonetheless retains its iridescent appearance, implying it's close to developing said membrane.

Louie's notes

Is it shrimp on the barbie you want? Well first of all, it's prawn... but not here! This creature has the taste and texture of shrimp, so get your grill on!

Bentley's notes

I never went bird watching before, and I figure trying to catch this creature's kind of like it. If that's so, I probably don't want to be a bird watcher.

Eloise's notes

I deeply relate to this creature's insistence to recluse itself in the safest place it knows when it comes near. It's yet another creature I feel incredibly bad for. I mean seriously, it's just a baby!
