The Egocentric Snitchbug is a boss appearing in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature resembles a Swooping Snitchbug but has a darker body with orange stripes, and glowing yellow eyes. It also has sharp claws for hands and two, fuzzy, white antennae. Instead of using antennae to fly, the scarpanid uses a pair of insect wings. The Snitchbug also wears what appears to be a black tophat, oddly enough. The arena of the boss will contain a singular Common Kettlebug. When approached, a large bowling ball will drop on the creature, and the Egocentric Snitchbug will descend into the arena, initiating the fight.
The Egocentric Snitchbug will attack by swooping down to grab up to two Pikmin in each hand. It will then spin them around quickly in its grasp before slamming them into the ground, killing them. Sometimes, the Egocentric Snitchbug will juggle the Pikmin in its hands before slamming each one onto the ground at a time. Its main attack, however, is grabbing its top hat to pull out numerous tricks and enemies from it. The Snitchbug can pull out three bomb rocks, which it will strategically slam onto the squad, causing them to prime and detonate after three seconds. The boss can also pull out globs of water, which it throws to try and drown Pikmin. The boss will sometimes pull out a large metal cube to drop, killing up to fifty Pikmin. Sometimes, the Snitchbug will pull out a bubble blower and blow dozens of bubbles at the Pikmin. The scarpanid can also pull out a Blowtorch Blowhog, and release it into the air to attack the group. However, its most deadly attack is pulling out a Spotty Bulbear, Fiery Bulblax, or Peach Bulborb.
The Egocentric Snitchbug is best beaten when baited to grab Weighted Pikmin, which are supplied in a group of ten before the battle. If it does grab one, it will try its hardest to pull it up, allowing for an attack. If attacked, the creature will fall and writhe around violently in a tantrum. It will then get back up and spit out a pool of poison at the group. Alternatively, Winged Pikmin and Iguana Pikmin can be used to attack the scarpanid, but less effectively. A third method of defeating the scarpanid is baiting it to swoop down near the bowling ball that was dropped earlier. It will slam its head into the bowling ball, also causing it to fall. When the Egocentric Snitchbug loses all of its health, it will get back up and disappear using a smoke bomb, but it will leave a Swooping Snitchbug carcass in its place with increased worth. Defeating an Egocentric Snitchbug for the first time will grant the “Show's Over!” achievement.
In Overlord mode, the Egocentric Snitchbug gains three new attacks: it can summon bolts of lightning from its hat, throw a variety of playing cards at quick speeds, which can knock over and kill Pikmin, and lastly, drop a large whooping cushion which releases a large gust of gloom when it hits the ground.
Notes
- Data file #1: Watch out for the insane variety of the Snitchbug's attacks! Be ready for anything!
- Data file #2: Try and get the Snitchbug to pick up a Weighted Pikmin, it's not that strong!
- Data file #3: The bowling ball can be used to knock some sense into the Egocentric Snitchbug...
- Data file #4 (Overlord mode): Watch out for the whoopie cushion, it's filled with gloom!
Olimar's notes
- “Yet another anomaly of science and biology. At this point, I’m no longer surprised! I’ve seen everything! I can only assume this beast hunts down prey and fights predators through magic and pulling things out of its hat! How does it get such large objects in the hat?! How does it perform magic!? HOW!?! I guess the Egocentric Snitchbug is a really good magician, just with a big head.”
Louie's notes
- “Not only do you have a delicious honey-glazed sear of Snitchbug meat, but you even get a nice tophat to wear while eating it! I would recommend this dish.”
President’s notes
- “How do I get this hat to make infinite Pokos? It just keeps on pouring out grub-dogs and other disgusting beasts! Work with me hat! Please!”
Overlord’s thoughts
- “This insect has a very big head. He always annoyed me, so I’m glad to see Olimar knock some sense into him.”

The Egocentric Snitchbug is a species of scarpanid that returns in Pikmin: Pitstop. Its appearance hasn’t changed much, still resembling a Swooping Snitchbug but having a darker body with orange stripes, and glowing yellow eyes. It has sharp claws for hands and two, fuzzy, white antennae. Instead of using antennae to fly, the scarpanid uses a pair of insect wings. The Snitchbug also wears a black tophat. In its arena, there will be one lone Antenna Beetle standing around. Once approached, a giant bowling ball will drop on the kettlebug, and the Egocentric Snitchbug will make its grand entrance.
The Egocentric Snitchbug is armed with a variety of attacks. However, it will always perform its main attack first before using a trick, that being swooping down and grabbing up to four Pikmin, before spinning them around and slamming them into the ground, killing them. Once it does this, the snitchbug will then pull out its tophat and dig through it, preparing to use a trick.
The Egocentric Snitchbug has a variety of elemental and hazard tricks. Its first is dropping a large glob of lava on the ground, which will create an “X”-shaped fire trail on the ground for a full minute, restricting navigation around the arena. Next is dropping three small, volatile electric nodes, similar to the Titan Dweevil. These nodes will generate a large force field of electricity until they’re destroyed by Yellow Pikmin. Its third is pulling out a sprinkler, and sprinkling water across the arena for a short period, which can choke non-Blue Pikmin. Its last elemental trick is turning its tophat over, and chasing the leaders from above as a stream of acid pours from its hat. Aside from elemental attacks, the Egocentric Snitchbug can use three hazard attacks as well. The first is dropping three large, bowling ball-shaped bombs on the ground, which after defusing, will create a massive explosion. The second is pulling out a stick of chewing gum, then chewing it and spitting it out at Pikmin to trap them. The third and final attack is pulling out a Waddlepus, and while holding it, squeezing it to spit out large clusters of bubbles at Pikmin to trap them.
Aside from hazard and elemental attacks, there are other tricks the Egocentric Snitchbug can use. Its main attack is throwing playing cards at Pikmin, to deflower them and potentially kill them. Another is pulling out a large anvil to drop on and kill Pikmin with brute force. However, its most deadly is digging through its tophat, before pulling out any enemy, and dropping them into the arena. This excludes bosses, but not minibosses like the Porquillion, Burrowing Snagret, and Bug-Eyed Crawmad. When at lower health, the Egocentric Snitchbug may pull up to three enemies at once to drop onto the arena.
Defeating the Egocentric is extremely difficult, and it’s recommended to bring all four types of Pikmin to the battle. Throwing Yellow Pikmin to try and weigh it down is a decent but inefficient strategy. Considering Weighted Pikmin and Winged Pikmin are unavailable, it is possible to bait the Egocentric Snitchbug into swooping down in front of the bowling ball and slamming its head into it, causing it to fall to the ground and become vulnerable. However, once it does this, the bowling ball will begin to move around the arena for a short time, crushing Pikmin and enemies before stopping in another spot.
Notes
- Data file #1: The Egocentric Snitchbug has a variety of tricks at its disposal. Be ready for anything!
- Data file #2: The Egocentric Snitchbug can summon enemies and minibosses, watch out!
- Data file #3: Try and maneuver the snitchbug right into the bowling ball to give it a rude awakening!
Louie's notes
- “Wow, this dumb bug is annoying. Probably tastes bad too. Would not recommend eating. But I did get a lot of seeds from it.”
Overlord’s insight
- “This bug.”
