The Cloaking Burrow-nit is an insect-like creature. It has a dark blue shell with large, red eye-like markings on it. When it hunts, it chooses a place where it rests face-down in the ground, patiently waiting for its prey to draw near. If it is approached, it emerges and attempts to follow and attack the Pikmin until they escape out of its pursuit range, when it then promptly returns to the spot where it was resting and re-burrows its head to wait for its next opportunity to chase prey. It has a sharp proboscis that can be thrust into prey, piercing the victim and causing damage, right before sucking it up and swallowing it.

Burrow-nits will deconstruct nearby stick bridges, similar to sheargrubs.

The Cloaking Burrow-nit appears in Pikmin V alongside its relative, the Joustmite. The two are often found together, tricking leaders as to which direction they should be approached from. Its new design increases the overhang of the shell over the face, making it harder to throw Pikmin at it instead of rushing.

Notes

Brittany's notes

Once exclusive in territory to its close relative the Joustmite, the two have increasingly begun not just overlapping range, but cohabiting entirely. Their ability to confound predators, particularly Pikmin, with opposite-facing shells has proven quite effective. I suspect it's only a matter of time before we begin seeing hybrids if not valid crossbreeds, which may require a reworking of their taxonomy.

Olimar's notes

Caution must be taken when attacking, as it is only vulnerable where it is capable of fighting back. Keep strafing in circles and chip away at the area between the proboscis and its shell. Rock Pikmin are immune to its one attack, though getting hits in is difficult due to the eave of its shell.

Louie's notes

I like to come up with different recipes for the same grub on this planet to mix it up a little. But you really can't beat boiled Burrow-nit, especially since the body sticks so strongly to the shell that there aren't many ways to serve it anyway.
