Scientific name Mononuclei stellacodus
Family Goolix

The Foolix resembles a yellowish amoeba with an orange star-shaped nucleus, which possesses a flagellum-like tail. It initially disguises itself as a blob of nectar, waiting for leaders or Pikmin to draw near, and will attack when either of them gets close. Its primary attack is to absorb its targets into its body, and is very aggressive in doing so, as it will stretch itself in order to engulf them more effectively. It will try to face the leaders and Pikmin at all times, as the tail of its nucleus is its weakness. Having Pikmin pull on its tail will cause its membrane to burst, rendering the creature vulnerable until it can reform its defenses.

The Foolix returns in Pikmin Evolution, sporting an updated design and behavior pattern. The body of the Foolix is slightly less viscous, now resembling marmalade or jam. This is important as rather than mimicking nectar, the creature mimics syrup instead. The Foolix doesn't spawn in the overworld like most enemies, rather the Foolix is found by breaking open a berry, specifically the berry from a Hanging Cocoberry that the Foolix has gotten itself inside of. The berry of a Foolix-infected Hanging Cocoberry can be differentiated from a normal one by its shinier texture, compared to the darker colors of the standard berry. The Foolix will also match the color of the Hanging Cocoberry it has infected, as it shares the properties of its host plant.

Each color of Foolix has a unique trait that differentiates itself from each other. A red Foolix shares the same battle tactics as Pikmin 4's incarnation of the creature, so aside from different colors and textures, it's essentially the same creature. An orange Foolix is able the stretch out for longer distances compared to the other colors, making it more difficult to avoid. A yellow Foolix has a longer flagellum-like tail, requiring 30 Pikmin to pull it out rather than the standard 15. The green Foolix is acidic and leaves a trait of corrosive sludge where it moves, making Germ Pikmin the best type to take it on. The blue Foolix has two nuclei with their own flagellum-like tails, requiring Pikmin to pull from two different sides; these nuclei have three-quarters of the health as a standard nucleus. A cyan Foolix's nuclei actively flee from Pikmin while it's exposed and flops around the battlefield, shaking Pikmin off when it jumps, making it much more slippery, though it has half the health of a standard nucleus to compensate. A purple Foolix is able to spray poison from its tail, meaning only Roach Pikmin can defeat it, and also releases a flower-withering gas when it's exposed similar to the one the Withering Blowhog blows. Lastly, the gray Foolix is larger and has more health than the standard Foolix, approximately fifty percent in fact, but it's three times as slow as a standard Foolix.

Aside from these new additions, all colors share the same weakness of either being frozen solid in ice or having an explosion scatter their outer body and reveal the nuclei within. Rather than release a piece of refuse when killed, the Foolix drops a seed that can be used to create syrup plants for the Foolix's respective colors. For example, a red Foolix will drop a seed that can be used to create a red syrup-producing plant. In a way, finding a Foolix can be more valuable than finding a syrup, as the seed it drops can create more syrups over a longer period of time, a long-term investment.

Notes

Ivy's journal

Possibly the most colorful creature on the planet, the Foolix's body is made out of a thick polymer which allows it enhanced mobility compared to other members of the goolix family. This polymer protects a singular nucleus that feeds on rotting plant matter. As a parasite, it focuses its energy on feeding on a specific host, in this case, Cocoberries, with each color discovered being tailor-made for each breed of Cocoberry.

Leni's recipe book

Despite its familiar texture, this creature is inedible as the juices marinating inside of it caused the body to become waxy and too chewy to enjoy.

Marvin's strategy guide

Picture the creature like some juice, would you not like your juice frozen... Well, that would make it a popsicle, but imagine if you put dirt in that juice, that would be bad, huh.
