The Carnation Bulborb is a prototype bulborb found in the files of Hey! Pikmin. It resembles a typical bulborb, but has beady black eyes, is mostly pink in color except for the white spots on its rump, and lacks eyestalks, fangs, and legs.

The Carnation Bulborb is a new enemy that appears in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature, despite its radical appearance from most Bulborbs, is a member of the Grub-dog family. It does not resemble most Bulborbs found in the game, but it does have some similarities to a Bulborb Larva. The creature is actually a relative species of the Water Dumple. Although Carnation Bulborbs can come in a variety of different colors depending on where they spawn in, the creatures default color is a pink color pallet. The Carnation Bulborb is a rather bizarre member of the grub-dog family appearing in Pikmin: Wide World. No dwarf variant of it is encountered, though it does resemble oversized, mutated Bulborb Larvae in both general appearance and behavior. They typically sleep on land, away from other creatures, and awaken upon being touched or injured, or hearing a sound loud enough to rouse them from their slumber. While awake, it will pursue nearby Pikmin and leaders, trying to eat them, until they flee its territory. Any leaders it bites down on will be chewed up and then forcibly spat out alongside any Pikmin in its mouth at the time. When prey is no longer around, the creature will attempt to return to a spot near its original resting position to resume its slumber.
Carnation Bulborbs are mainly pink in coloration, giving them their name. They are the size and shape of most other bulborbs, but lack legs and thus are forced to lurch along the ground to move. The face of a Carnation Bulborb is a much lighter hue of pink than its white-spotted backside. Unlike other grub-dogs, the beady black eyes of the Carnation Bulborb are poorly developed. Carnation Bulborbs also lack fangs, but they have no problem swallowing Pikmin whole and biting leaders.
The optimal method of defeating a Carnation Bulborb is to charge Pikmin at its backside while it is sleeping, which is much more effective than throwing them. Attacking one head-on can be difficult since its eyes are so small that Pikmin can't target them specifically as a weakness. However, it moves quite slowly while awake, so attacking it should be no problem no matter the circumstance. Upon defeat, a Carnation Bulborb briefly convulse before flipping onto its back and going limp.
In ultra-spicy difficulty, the Carnation Bulborb will awaken when so much as approached. Additionally, it will lunge forward while it takes a bite, catching any Pikmin and leaders in its path in its mouth.
Notes
Data file #1 (all difficulties): Carnation Bulborbs may look cute and harmless, but they are best left alone.- Data file #2 (all difficulties): Trying to attack the Carnation Bulborb's eyes is futile since they're so underdeveloped.
- Data file #3 (ultra-spicy difficulty only): Dodge out of the way of the Carnation Bulborb's bites. They can be devastating.

“The carnation bulborb stands out from other grub-dogs in a few ways biologically. It has a charming and gentle coloration, which makes it easy to see. Its skin is also surprisingly silky. Its eyes are small and underdeveloped, meaning it has poor eyesight. However, its eye size also prevents creatures from specifically targeting them. Perhaps the most striking feature of the carnation bulborb is its lack of legs; it must crawl along the ground to reach prey, whereupon it will devour them whole with its big mouth. It is unfortunate that this species seems so rare, but maybe evolution may soon benefit this creature.”

“Carnation bulborbs are adorable and are as loveable as they look. I was so charmed by them when I first saw them. Carnation bulborbs make for low-maintenance pets, but they do love chomping things, even their owner's hands! Not hard, of course, but in the form of love nibbles. Just be ready to scold it if it can't help but get a little overzealous in returning affections.”
