Black Spectralid returns in Pikmin 2... Again?. It is like other flitterbies, but its wings black. They usually are the hardest to attack due to the fact they are always flying and never land on anything, but they drop a ultra-bitter nectar. It represents the Dark Pikmin.

Black Spectralids are the rarest variety of flutterbie in Pikmin X: Deep Freeze and are recognizable by their black and purple sheen. Like other spectralids, they rest on various surfaces and fly away when approached, but they have a bit more edge in that they scatter a cloud of scales around themselves when taking off. Pikmin covered in a Black Spectralid's scales flail around in a panic but come to their senses within a few seconds, giving the Black Spectralid plenty of time to fly to safety. It is strongly recommended to sneak up on these creatures and attack from a distance, as they are quickly defeated once a Pikmin is thrown on them. The reward for getting the jump on a Black Spectralid is a drop of ultra-bitter spray.
