Get ready, this bratty bug isn’t going down without a fight! – The ship, upon discovering the Egocentric Snitchbug

The Egocentric Snitchbug is a new boss found in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature resembles a Swooping Snitchbug. However, it has a black body hue, yellow glowing eyes, and orange stripes over its body. It has sharp claws for hands and two, fuzzy, white antennas for flight. Instead of using antennas to fly, the scarpanid flies with a regular pair of wings. The Snitchbug also wears what appears to be a black tophat, oddly enough. The arena of the boss will contain a singular Common Kettlebug. When approached, a large bowling ball will drop on the creature, and the Egocentric Snitchbug will sporadically descend into the arena; initiating the boss fight.

The Egocentric Snitchbug will attack by swooping down to grab up to two Pikmin in each hand. It will then spin them around quickly in its grasp before slamming them into the ground, killing them. Sometimes, the Egocentric Snitchbug will juggle the four Pikmin in its hands before slamming each one onto the ground at a time. Its main attack, however, is grabbing its top hat to pull out numerous tricks and enemies from it. The Snitchbug can pull out three bomb rocks, which it will strategically slam onto the squad, causing them to prime and detonate after three seconds. The boss can also pull out balls of water, which it throws to try and drown Pikmin. The boss will sometimes pull out a large metal cube to drop on the group, killing up to fifty Pikmin. Sometimes, the Snitchbug will pull out a bubble blower and blow dozens of bubbles on the group. The scarpanid boss can also pull out a Blowtorch Blowhog, and release it into the air to attack the group. However, its most deadly attack is pulling out a Spotty Bulbear, Fiery Bulblax, or Peach Bulborb to drop on the group.

The Egocentric Snitchbug is best beaten when baited to grab Weighted Pikmin, which are supplied in a group of ten before the battle. If it does grab one, it will try its hardest to pull it up, allowing for an attack. If attacked, the creature will fall down and writhe around violently in a tantrum. It will then get back up and spit out a pool of poison at the group. Alternatively, Winged Pikmin and Iguana Pikmin can be used to attack the scarpanid, but it’s less effective. A third method of defeating the scarpanid is baiting it to swoop down near the bowling ball that was dropped earlier. It will slam its head into the bowling ball; causing it to fall down. When the Egocentric Snitchbug loses all its health, it will get back up and disappear through a smoke bomb, but it will leave a Swooping Snitchbug carcass in its place with increased stats. Defeating an Egocentric Snitchbug for the first time will reward the player with the “Show’s Over!” achievement.

In Overlord mode, the Egocentric Snitchbug gains three new attacks. The scarpanid can summon bolts of lightning from its hat. The boss can also throw a variety of playing cards at the player at quick speeds, which can knock over and kill Pikmin. Lastly, the Egocentric Snitchbug can drop a large whooping cushion which releases a large gust of gloom when it hits the ground.

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #2: Try and get the Snitchbug to pick up a Weighted Pikmin, they’re not that strong!
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #3: The bowling ball can be used to knock some sense into the Egocentric Snitchbug…
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #4 (Overlord mode): Watch out for the whoopie cushion, it’s filled with gloom!

Olimar's notes

Yet another anomaly of science and biology. At this point, I’m no longer surprised! I’ve seen everything! I can only assume this beast hunts down prey and fights predators through magic and pulling things out of its hat! How does it get such large objects in the hat?! How does it perform magic!? HOW!?! I guess the Egocentric Snitchbug is a really good magician, just with a big head.

Louie's notes

Not only do you have a delicious honey-glazed sear of Snitchbug meat, you even get a nice tophat to wear while eating it! I would recommend this dish.

President’s notes

How do I get this hat to make infinite Pokos? It just keeps on pouring out grub-dogs and other disgusting beasts! Work with me hat! Please!

Overlord’s thoughts

This insect has a very big head. He always annoyed me, so I’m glad to see Olimar knock some sense into him.
