Touchdown Crater is the first area in Pikmin: Interstellar Cryptid. The S.S. Lacewing crashes in this region on the first day, with Bentley being the only indiviual to remain with the ship afterwards. Thankfully, Red Pikmin are found nearby. This, combined with the discovery of a Sunseed Berry for nourishment and two of the S.S. Lacewing's parts, allow him to escape and search for the others before continuing his search for the enigmatic beast he initially spotted.

Unlike the further areas in the game, Touchdown Crater is not themed around any specific country in the real world. It is merely an autumn forest inspired by The Impact Site. Most of the area can only be explored after Blue Pikmin are encountered, as they're needed to build using raw materials. Its associated night expedition is called A Light in the Darkness, and its boss is the Electric Cottonade and its Foraging Cottonade children.

After the true final area is unlocked, a rock in the back of the landing site will disappear, leading to a small chamber with a puddle of mud, and a slope leading up to a branch from which the only special fruit to be found grows off of. However, this change isn't notified until after the defeat of the final boss and collection of every other fruit in the game, at which point a secret cave also appears in this chamber.
