Water Dumples are members of the grub-dog family and behave like dwarf bulborbs in that they remain stationary and passive until approached. They are most commonly found in water but can survive on land as well, usually appearing in groups. They resemble blue cat- or shellfish, with relatively large mouths, whisker-like features, and tentacles at the rear of their abdomen. If a Water Dumple senses a nearby Pikmin or leader, it will give chase and continue pursuing them for a considerable distance before returning to its original location. They have one simple bite attack that can grab only a few Pikmin at a time, and if attacked, they may shake any Pikmin off of their bodies. Though similar in stature to dwarf bulborbs, Water Dumples cannot be defeated by one Pikmin thrown directly onto their back, but they can be defeated rather quickly, regardless.

Water Dumples are aquatic enemies in Pikmin: Treacherous Treasures. They are usually found in or near bodies of water in groups of two or more, but they can survive on land as well. Water Dumples move faster in the water than they do on land. They can be defeated easily by swarming their backside with Pikmin. Make sure to whistle them back if it shakes them off to prevent them from being eaten. If they are in a group, a single bomb rock can dispatch all of them in a short amount of time.

The Water Dumple appears in Pikmin: Wide World as a semiaquatic grub-dog. It is closely related to the Acid Dumple but thrives in water rather than acid. It is most commonly found in pools of water, sitting idly alone or with up to three other Water Dumples, although they may rarely be found on dry land as well. Idle Water Dumples occasionally move around only to reposition themselves after sitting in place for a certain amount of time. When Pikmin or leaders are near, a Water Dumple will chase after them until they flee far enough away, at which point it will return to a spot near its original position. It will lurch forward to eat Pikmin and bite leaders directly in front of it. Extreme caution should be exercised around Water Dumples as they have much higher mobility in water than on land.

Water Dumples are small, blind grub-dogs that have a round, oblong body. They have a bumpy, purple hide, a wide mouth with thin, pink lips that are the same color as their rear appendages. Immediately above their lips is a pair of thin, black whiskers. Visible on their underside are several sets of gills that span the entire length of their body.

Although it may appear weak due to its size, a Water Dumple is a surprisingly capable foe. Charging Pikmin at it as a first attack is ineffective because it has enough strength to shake off all of its attackers at once with a jump, no matter how many there are, and it immediately follows up with bites after doing so. It also cannot be instantly killed by having a Pikmin thrown directly on top of it, but a direct Purple Pikmin pound inflicts much damage to it. Worse yet, it is often found submerged partially or fully by water, meaning usually only Blue Pikmin are able to safely reach it, although it may be attacked by any Pikmin type while it is on land. However, a Water Dumple may be killed effectively by combining the two aforementioned strategies against it; throwing a few Pikmin onto it will distract it for long enough that it cannot immediately react to a swarm of Pikmin charged at it immediately after, which often results in a swift victory with minimal to no losses. Upon death, a Water Dumple will yield 5. Aboveground, its body may be brought to either the Dolphin Lander for 4 or the Master Onion for five Pikmin seeds. Underground, its remains may be brought to the Lander Pod to gain either 4 or five main discovered Pikmin seeds of choice from the Master Onion, but only if the cave is exited using an escape geyser.

Water Dumples are members of the grub-dog family that are most commonly found in water but can survive on land as well, usually appearing in groups. If a Water Dumple senses a nearby Pikmin or leader, it will give chase and continue pursuing them for a considerable distance before returning to its original position. They have one simple bite attack that can grab only a few Pikmin at a time, and if attacked, they may shake any Pikmin off of their bodies.

Notes

Tike's notes

I'm quite shocked to know a species so different from the grub-dog family is part of it. Their dietary habits stay the same, but they are amphibious and prefer water. They are also blind, so they depend on sound waves to locate food. I just wonder why such creatures love living nearby harsh waters like the ones in Sanhatten's Beach.

Alice's notes

These stubborn creatures think they can just relax in water and chow any Pikmin nearby, yet are unbelievably lazy with a habit of sneaking up on people. It's very annoying and if I could, I would bring it down in a fist-fighting match. Maybe I'm getting a bit carried away by this idea.

Captain Pikmin's notes

Since they are mainly in the water, fighting them without Blue Pikmin may become a problem. Watch out though, because they can pair up and eat your team pretty quickly.

Brittany's notes

Olimar insists that this creature is a grub-dog, but to me, it seems too far removed. The body shape and feeding habits are similar, but the dumple has gills and lacks many distinct features of the bulborbs like their spotty backs.

Olimar's notes

Although its defenseless body may look like easy pickings, it is a surprisingly capable attacker. It can lunge at your Pikmin to eat them, and it can buck off even a large number at once onto its front side, where they become the prey instead.

Louie's notes

It has a taste and composure that lies in-between traditional red meats and seafood. While it can flexibly be cooked to either side, hitting the right balance in the middle is very difficult. The usual outcome is bringing out the worst of both surf and turf.

Water Dumples appear in Pikmin: Return to the Distant Planet and are smaller aquatic relatives of bulborbs. They attack quickly, which can make them dangerous when fighting them alone or with a small squad. However, they have less health than their land-dwelling relatives, which makes them easier to deal with; a bomb rock can dispatch a large group of them.

Upon death, a Water Dumple will yield HP Sparklium icon.png × 5. Aboveground, its body may be brought to either the Dolphin Lander for P3 Poko icon.png × 4 or the Master Onion for five Pikmin seeds. Underground, its remains may be brought to the Lander Pod to gain either P3 Poko icon.png × 4 or five main discovered Pikmin seeds of choice from the Master Onion, but only if the cave is exited using an escape geyser.

Notes

Olimar's notes

The water dumple is an eyeless, blind predator that relies on smell, sound, vibration, and sense of movement to locate prey. It is often found sitting almost completely motionless in water, where it reproduces and is able to make the most of its abilities, for extended periods of time while hunting. Its physiology grants it high agility in water, an ability it exploits whenever possible to gain an advantage over prey that falls into the water with it, and its whiskers provide superior vibration detection in water.

Shacho's notes

If one of these beasts could be tamed, could I ride on it and have it travel across some body of water? It would be a nice source of income if Hocotate had a surplus of shallow water... like the Hocotate swamp...

Marie's notes

Water dumples are dangerous to owners because they have such a large mouth and big appetite. Because they have no way to see, you have to make yourself extremely distinct from the food you give one or you could become the main course instead. They prefer isolation and submersion in water, but do appreciate company and periodic affection.

Louie's notes

May be served deep-fried without batter to make a delicious meal, but pan-searing a seasoned slab of its meat and serving alongside fresh steamed vegetables and water dumple roe or caviar makes for a delightful dinner!

Dolphin Lander's notes

This cute little creature seems to know how to defend itself well from attackers, but seems to have difficulty in fighting off attackers that begin their assault while it is already defending itself. It's an unfortunate fault, but considering the relative lack of predators its size that shares its habitat besides blue pikmin, the need to defend itself in such a way is rare.
