The Iridescent Glint Beetle is a golden, sparkling flint beetle. The majority of these creatures are found rarely underground, with few appearances aboveground. They hide under the surface, emerging only when approached by Pikmin or leaders. Much like the Iridescent Flint Beetle and the Doodlebug, the Iridescent Glint Beetle can only be damaged by a direct Pikmin throw to its back, which will cause it to flip over and drop a reward. This bug, when aboveground, may drop rewards such as randomly-colored pellets, and then a few doses of ultra-spicy spray when hit additional times with a Pikmin. Underground, pellets are swapped with other rewards, such as three doses of nectar. Some Iridescent Glint Beetles drop treasures or other valuable objects instead. If it's killed whilst petrified, it will shatter instantly, leaving nothing behind. In comparison to the Iridescent Flint Beetle, it stays above ground for less time, but, on average, stands still for slightly longer every time it stops moving. Iridescent Glint Beetles move quickly, making them difficult targets to pin, but at the same time, they have no offensive attributes, so an encounter with one can only end up as a chase. Once an Iridescent Glint Beetle has spent enough time running around, it will quickly scurry back underground; it will also do this if it has dropped all it was carrying.

“This variety of beetle consumes subterranean minerals. Due to the fact that it rarely emerges above ground, sightings of this particular species are extremely rare. While minerals are this beast's primary source of food, the beetle itself does not have the ability to digest these minerals. Instead, metabacteria living inside the beetle's stomach chemically break down the minerals. The resulting purified metal is discharged, but rare metals such as gold and platinum crystallize onto the iridescent glint beetle's shell, resulting in the beautiful laminated shimmer.”

In Pikmin Kart

Template:Pikmin Kart The Iridescent Glint Beetle is an item in Pikmin Kart that appears in item boxes commonly. When used, an Iridescent Glint Beetle appears directly behind the user's kart. All opponents that drive by it are drawn closer to it and sometimes swerve out of control and crash. The Iridescent Glint Beetle will last for a while before burrowing underground and disappearing. If a player throws any type of Pikmin onto an Iridescent Glint Beetle, it'll flip over and give the player that hit it an item box that has a higher chance than normal of containing a rare item.

The Gilded Flint Beetle is a flint beetle that appears in Pikmin V. Brittany, due to her having taken over as the biological notetaker, renamed the creature from the Iridescent Glint Beetle and reclassified it as a proper member of the flint beetle family. The creature has also been redesigned to match real-world insect biology more closely; most notably, what used to be its bronze antennae are now silver eyestalks. Instead of wandering in bursts like a regular Iridescent Flint Beetle, the Gilded Flint Beetle will run in a straight line to a nearby source of cover. The drop pattern has also been altered slightly: it will drop three blobs of nectar on the second hit and a random spray on the third hit. If found somewhere without Onion access, such as in a cave, it will always drop a spray. Certain Challenge Mode levels will fix which spray it drops, as well.

“I can't believe Olimar actually put this in a different family than the flint beetle! He also had the audacity to put them in the same genus! That's wrong on so many levels! ...Oh, right, scientific analysis. This beetle spends most of its life underground, where it subsists on minerals. These minerals are converted by bacteria in its intestines into a form it can use. Metals like gold and platinum that have no nutritional value are recycled into its shell, which gives the creature its signature glint. However, it also makes its shell more brittle, so it has to rely more on stealth for defense, resulting in extreme rarity.”

“It is quick to run when scared out of hiding. It has much better rewards than its green-and-black counterpart, though, and sometimes may even hold a treasure! With practice, you can predict where it'll move and get a shot in. Yellow Pikmin are recommended for beginners due to their ability to be thrown farther.”

“It was once agreed that iridescent glint beetles and a similar-looking creature, the iridescent flint beetle, were part of their own families. However, fossil records show that millions of years ago, they were part of the same family. The new theory is that they are part of a newly discovered superfamily, comprising of flint beetles and other similar-looking creatures. However, an even newer hypothesis emerged, saying that it is not a superfamily, rather, an ordinary family. The taxonomy in this instance is confusing, complex, and perplexing, but paleontologists and taxonomists are working together to find a solution to this debate.”
