The Spotstool is a species of sporovid appearing in Pikmin Evolution. They have a thin red cap featuring large, pale, fleshy lumps, giving them a vague resemblance to a Kingcap. It is quite clumsy even by sporovid standards, skipping along and occasionally tripping over onto its cap even without Pikmin chasing it down. Despite its apparent incompetence, it is a surprisingly crafty predator and is one of few purely carnivorous fungi species. After flipping back onto its feet, it will quickly crouch down and enclose its cap, eating any Pikmin that may be beside it.

While the Spotstool may be dangerous enough on its own, it is far more difficult to take down, and for several reasons. For one, its wide cap protects it from Pikmin throws, necessitating risking swarming it to harm it. When its health is reduced to half, the Spotstool exhibits its odd signature ability to split into three smaller duplicates of itself. These smaller duplicates are faster but frailer than the original Spotstool, with the cap now being small enough for thrown Pikmin to latch onto the main body. Regardless, swarming still inflicts more damage than throwing. When one of those duplicates loses all of its health, it will split into three even smaller duplicates that are even faster and frailer. As well, thrown Pikmin inflict normal damage against them. This stage is the smallest possible, and upon dying, they shrivel up and can be collected. If two Spotstools of the same size are left alone together, they will fuse together into the next largest size. Spotstool corpses should not be exposed to water, no matter the source, as it will rehydrate their bodies and revive them. When exposed to heat, however, they will shrivel up and split like normal. As such, a red syrup will burn these enemies to a crisp, but poses a risk of burning their carcasses. By killing the last Spotstool duplicate, it drops a piece of refuse, often one of appropriately smaller size. Overall, defeat it quickly, don't let it or its duplicates near one another, and keep their bodies out of water to prevent them from causing too much trouble.

Ivy's journal

Not to be confused with the Spotcap, the Spotstool is an example of convergent evolution in the animal kingdom. Taking after the Breadbug mimics of our world, the Spotstool mimics the general pattern of the Kingcap, which has a tough and waxy texture that discourages predators from eating it. If the disguise fails, the Spotstool displays the ability to split its cellular structure to create an exact duplicate of itself for the predator to gnaw on while the original body runs away to regenerate itself. I am quite intrigued with the Spotstool's regenerative properties, and I want to see if they can be used to patch up wounds and even create new limbs for amputees.

Leni's recipe book

Marvin once suggested that frying the creature in an open flame is the best course of action when tackling this walking fungus, but personally, I like eating it raw and slathered in honey. The spongey texture and natural umami taste are lost when roasted, so I don't understand why Marvin likes his fungi that way.

Marvin's strategy guide

Burn it, burn it now! I mean, solving issues with fire is one of our species most straightforward solutions...

The Spotstool is a somewhat uncommon sporovid appearing in Pikmin: Dual Worlds, in the Salem Swamp and some of its caves. It appears to be little more than a weak tripedal sporovid at first, but due to them all having nearly identical genetic information and being incredibly malleable, three of them together can fuse into a larger version of themselves. At its smallest size, it can easily be defeated with a single Pikmin thrown on top of it. It's still weak to attacks from above at the next size, though to a lesser extent. However, at the third and fourth sizes, it becomes immune to aerial attacks, solely destructible from the sizes. This is when it's most dangerous as if it happens across prey to its sides that happen to be beneath its cap, it crouches down and closes its cap on them to eat them. If attacked enough, it can be split back into its parts, though at sizes three or higher it will split into the size below it instead of directly into the smallest size. They can be summoned by and are often in the presence of Swarmstools, though they don't spawn exclusively due to them.

The Spotstool is a sporovid miniboss appearing in Pikmin: Spark. Found in dens, they have a red cap featuring large, pale, fleshy lumps, giving them the appearance of a Kingcap. They appear to be quite clumsy creatures as they move in an awkward waddle and trip quite frequently, characteristics that belie so dangerous a predator. After getting up from tripping, it closes its large cap and traps anything inside for consumption. The creature has little vitality but is not easy to take down as it splits into three smaller versions of itself when damaged enough. These smaller Spotstools act as smaller and faster versions of the original Spotstool and also split into three even smaller Spotstools under the same conditions. Upon death, the smallest Spotstools either disintegrate completely or leave behind recoverable remains. The final one killed drops the Tangy Capsule, a container of garlic powder worth HP Sparklium icon.png × 200, is dropped.

In Ultra-Spicy Mode, after being split, Spotstools of the same size eventually merge into a full Spotstool if not split again soon enough. Two split Spotstools can merge if the third is split, forming a full-size Spotstool that splits into three smaller Spotstools, meaning its spoils may be harvested indefinitely.

Its muscles are intriguing. The cells can combine to form more durable molecules.

You can create great bricks out of these. The material binds together and regenerates after getting damaged.
