The Funghoul is a rare and elusive sporovid appearing in Pikmin: Dual Worlds. After being seen, it climbs to a high vantage point to stalk leaders and Pikmin for several minutes while remaining unseen. It eventually leaps down to the ground, landing almost silently. At this point, if it is seen by its prey it will charge at them. Dodging out of the way will cause it to trip and render itself vulnerable to attack. Whether it is seen or not, a Funghoul will grab Pikmin that are close enough to it, holding them captive and poisoning them in its strong grip. The creature will also be open to attack during this time. Landing even a single hit on a Funghoul will kill it. Upon defeat, a Funghoul will collapse into a pile of spores, leaving its cap, transforming into mycelium that soon forms into another Funghoul.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “Okay, this is just a bit too similar to the plasm wraith for me to even want to be near its remains. It's roughly Hocotoid, it can use multiple elemental abilities, shapeshift, and never stops chasing prey. Additionally, it has one other trait: it always comes back. Hopefully, it doesn't draw yet another parallel to the plasm wraith in that way as well.”
Olimar's addendum
- “It appears I was not so lucky. Upon closer observation, the orange spots on its cap have been revealed to be eyes. That explains why it lowers its head to look at us.”
Alph's notes
- “Structural flaw: it can't see while charging. / Weight: 3 (? Possibly infinite? Maybe?) / This creature is amazing from a design perspective, but horrifying up close. It sneaks up on you, stalking you, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Even in death, it can take the lives of you or your Pikmin. If that... thing is going down, you're going down with it. And it doesn't stay down.”
