The Spitball Dweevil appears in Pikmin: Dual Worlds. This strange dweevil can assume the coloration and harness the powers of a hazard-wielding dweevil it is in direct or indirect physical contact with. Specifically, it will spit projectiles containing the element in question from above. A small, colorless ball of fluid will telegraph where the attacks will land. It can shoot two projectiles at a time, and those on the Elder Foundation Dweevil will shoot four times per attack cycle and once every ten seconds during non-attack cycles. When on its own, a Spitball Dweevil will put its mandibles together and create a large, gelatinous bubble that it kicks toward its foes. This bubble will trap anything it comes across within itself until the bubble hits something larger than itself, including fellow dweevils, at which point it will burst. These bubbles also happen to be somewhat floaty and can be used to cross gaps or get over hazards in certain circumstances. The translucent body of a Spitball Dweevil is initially not of any color but does change to match that of the dweevil it assumed the properties of while still retaining its translucency. The Spitball Dweevil's scientific name comes from the fact that it copies other dweevil's colors and elements, making it similar to a painter in that it helps apply color to the canvas, or in this case the surrounding environment, but only when the paint, or other dweevils, are present. Its common name comes from its other ability, which is spitting balls of the element that it's copying at attackers from holes on its mandibles.
Up to four Spitball Dweevils may be found in the company of an Elder Foundation Dweevil, standing atop the creature and one another, their legs placed into the holes of the legs of the Elder Foundation Dweevil they are riding. In combination with Calcifus Dweevils and elemental dweevils, Spitball Dweevils can make an Elder Foundation Dweevil a formidable opponent in combat.
