The Festive Beeb is a somewhat uncommon member of the soplouse family that appears in Pikmin: Dual Worlds. It has a small, roughly teardrop-shaped, vibrantly colored piece of ice on its abdomen, which the Beeb can electrify in order to cause it to glow. When threatened, it can electrify this ice to the point of causing the inside to melt, soon after resulting in the ice shattering off into sharp little shards. This can be negated by simply removing the ice before it has the chance to use it. It may also rapidly flash to cause Pikmin to panic. If the ice is removed, whether by shattering or by attacks, the Festive Beeb can slowly regenerate it. The more time between removals, the more ice is regained, and therefore the more dangerous the attack. Notably, on difficulties at or above flower+, it can lure Pikmin and some enemies towards it, as well as use electricity to electrocute them.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This unusually lonesome soplouse stores some of the juice of berries it eats in a small sac in its abdomen, allowing it to keep food for more barren seasons. It infuses some of this juice with water in order to create a frosty coating on its abdomen. not only does this somewhat protect it from damage, but it also allows it to show off the juice it's collected to possible mates. In order to be more visible, it gained the ability to electrify the frozen juice, causing it to glow. However, this also acts as a good countermeasure against attackers, as most possible foes in its size range will be quickly deterred.

Louie's notes

This beast comes with its own marinade! Alternatively, depending on the color of the frozen juice, it can become a delicious shaved ice treat! Note: don't eat the purple ones, I had to use the Sea Dragon's speech-to-text function to write this.

Alph's notes

Structural flaw: ice takes a while to regenerate / Weight: three / After Louie became flexible again, we all got to share a nice treat of shaved ice! Despite his incident, there weren't any other issues. On a more related note, this creature's frosty bulb somewhat resembles the festive lights that are often hung up in the cold season, hence the name. It's quite fascinating that across over two hundred seventy-nine thousand light years, two entirely unrelated objects can become so similar. I find it strange that this species would abandon the somewhat Scornet-like social structure and form one like this instead, but perhaps it's simply due to the lack of local resources required to form one, and if there were more, they'd do the same as the other beebs.

Brittany's notes

It reminds me of an ugly sweater my Aunt Bea gave me with colorful lights in it. I'm itchy all over just thinking about it. Similarly to that sweater, it's utterly adorable. I saw a pair of them cuddling together, actually. I don't know how you could stand the stickiness of that juice-ice, but I suppose some will do anything for love.

Charlie's notes

Despite its somewhat sticky shell, this soplouse can't ensnare your Pikmin. If need be, break its shell, but otherwise simply throwing Pikmin on its face works fine.

The Festive Beeb is a small soplouse that typically appears in cold climates or in cozy home environments during the holiday season. They travel in packs of ten to eighteen individuals and are always positioned in a line or curve, no matter whether they are still or moving, although they tend to remain stationary. They shine brilliantly in a dazzling display of color, often distracting nearby Pikmin, leaders, and even most enemies. Festive Beebs are ignorant of anything around them but will try to avoid dangers, and tend to stay away from other groups.

Festive Beebs resemble ornamental Christmas lights, and their translucent, roughly oval-shaped bodies can abruptly change various colors including white, red, blue, green, and yellow, projecting light of matching color onto their surroundings. Their eyes are mounted on eyestalks near the top of their bodies, and their four wiry legs, each terminating in what appear to be winter boots, are positioned equidistantly from one another. A thin black cord visibly connects the base of one Festive Beeb to another in a line.

Although completely harmless, and even helpful in some scenarios due to being able to distract enemies, Festive Beebs can be irritating during time-sensitive tasks because they also affect Pikmin and leaders in the same way. The only Pikmin capable of destroying a Festive Beeb are Rock Pikmin, being able to shatter them in one hit, whereas all other Pikmin simply tackle them or hit them with their stem to no avail. Festive Beebs can also be destroyed by blunt force, explosions, and other, similar means, however. Ranging Bloysters are particularly entranced by Festive Beebs and will try to eat them, slurping up the cord like a noodle and biting down on each beeb, inadvertently hurting themselves in the process. Destroying one Festive Beeb will cause the deaths of all other Festive Beebs in its group no matter its position, and each one that dies in this way will remain intact.

In ultra-spicy difficulty, destroying a Festive Beeb causes it to deliver an electrical shock to its attacker, although the rest die normally and won't do the same when destroyed postmortem, and any Pikmin and enemies watching at them at the time will respectively panic and frenzy.
