Pikmin: Gold Rush is a side game and sequel to Pikmin: Under Lock and Key, made by Xtarhaven. Taking place after the events of the game, Gold Rush is akin to the Challenge Mode of Pikmin 2 and Mission Mode of Pikmin 3, expanded to be a full game of many mini-challenges along with a short story mode reminiscent of Olimar's Assignment and Comeback to introduce concepts to the player.
Story
PNF-404 has been a hotspot for treasure hunters ever since the first discovery of the planet by Olimar, most of which have been bailed out by the Rescue Corps. With the high risk of ship crashes and disturbance to the ecosystem, the planet had been placed under lockdown by Koppai, now an intergalactic national park where only farming and scientific discovery are allowed.
However, the lust for treasure and wealth is unmatched by the Space Bunnies, a race of alien rabbits hostile to Hocotatians and Koppaites and infamous for raiding cargo ships of food and goods. Nobody really knows why, and they are shrouded in mystery. Everyone respects the Koppai Goverment's lockdown except for them. Many have been caught even with their stealth technology, and fewer and fewer have tried to plunder the planet... But one was brave enough, cunning enough, and sneaky enough to attempt to: the infamous space bunny space pirate Jack, and his crew, the Bucktooth Pirates!
Through the grapevine, Jack heard that what looked like a giant golden pikpik carrot was discovered on the planet. Just one. And he had to have it. Setting off without any hesitation, he and his crew sneak past the security orbiting the system, avoid several meteors, and land safely on the surface. They have limited time, as each night, a radar sweeps the planet. They would need to have a small footprint on the planet, using only wild Pikmin so as to not raise suspicion. Could they really collect the golden giant pikpik look-a-like without getting caught...?
