Plot

Opening

The opening of this game has an animation of Olimar sitting with his family at home, having dinner as any other normal day. There's a knock on the door, and it turns out to be Chacho, delivering a VERY important message.

Olimar! I need your help, quick!! Louie ran off with the main company ship, and he took all of the pokos we had gotten earlier! If we can't get it back... Hocotate freight is doomed! Olimar, meet me tomorrow morning, please!

To which Olimar nods, and his son stares in disbelief. (Also note a Groovy Long legs bobblehead in the windowsill next to the front door, just a fun detail.) Chacho runs off, flailing his arms as he sprints around the corner, and Olimar closes the door. The screen fades to black, and comes back to the next morning, showing Olimar walking out the front door and getting in a small vehicle, before driving off and around a corner. The slowly turns and zooms into Olimar as he gets out of the car in the parking lot of the Hocotate Freight office. He's sent out with a new character, Charlie, (not to be confused with captain Charlie from Pikmin 3,) and they get in the ship and drive off, leaving behind Chacho, who's standing there waving, just before he starts jumping, surprised, and he runs inside before coming out, holding a box of Pikpik carrots and looking up at the ship, already leaving the atmosphere. The screen fades to black once more, and then it shows the ship going back to PNF-404, just before the original ship flies forward, and a meteor hits both, sending them flying through space, as the camera turns to see the ships speeding towards another planet, almost a complete orange-green swirl. The camera's view slides down into the void, and then it cuts to the rest of the Tutorial scene.

Tutorial

The Tutorial has the ship laying on a slightly submerged cliff, looking down into the water. Olimar gets out of the ship, but Charlie is nowhere to be seen. Olimar looks around, and then speaks.

Let's hope that Charlie is alright. I can't believe that double crash... Oh well, I've gotta get out of here somehow, wait a minute-

A Pikmin appears, and squeaks at Olimar. This Pikmin being a Blue Pikmin.

Is that... A blue Pikmin? But how did it get here? This isn't PNF-404... How fascinating! Well, maybe I can find some way to use them to get back out...

The Blue Pikmin looks at Olimar quizzically. Olimar smiles at the Pikmin and walks towards it. The Blue Pikmin becomes more alert, and jumps up, before running backwards and through the water, turning into a small cave as Olimar follows. Olimar jumps as he sees the Blue onion stuck in some tangleweed, where the player is put in a skippable tutorial on how to whistle Pikmin and throw them. Upon throwing the five blue Pikmin at the onion, it will fall and immediately root, before the Pikmin begin to do a little dance. Then it progresses to the Tutorial Stage, rather than the Tutorial. The Tutorial Stage is the first day, which has no end until the goal is completed. Certain objects are there, they just cannot be interacted with. In the Tutorial Stage, it guides you through exploring with Olimar, sending you a little further and explaining more of the controls as it goes along, before the first big battle happens. The Tutorial Boss, the Titan Starnel waits in a large crater of sand. When the tutorial day ends, the first letter appears.

Olimar, Quick! Not only do we need the money back, but our last cash grab was a failure! I need more treasures, quick!!

Story

The rest of the story has Olimar adventuring across Icarus 172 in search of Louie, among other things.
