Gates, also called walls, are obstacles that block paths to other areas. They are found in a number of different forms, which require different strategies to overcome. In general, they can be destroyed by Pikmin: a leader just needs to order them to work on demolishing the structure. A gate that is being torn down displays increasingly visible damage, breaking down and falling apart before finally being destroyed. The length of time it takes to demolish a gate depends on its type, and the number and types of Pikmin working on it. Some gates require specific Pikmin types or tools to overcome. All gates and walls that can be universally damaged by Pikmin are of varying strengths, but ones on the surface tend to be much more durable than the ones found in caves. Gates and walls that can be torn down by any Pikmin type are destroyed even faster if they are latched onto it from a throw, but as the layers on the gate peel down, those Pikmin will eventually fall and attack at ground level.

Crystal walls are gate types that require Rock Pikmin to break. The gate itself is made by a piece of glass that has been securely lodged between two clamps and will crack as it is hit with Rock Pikmin. Once enough damage has occurred, the wall will shatter altogether. The cracks are split in quadrants, and once a quadrant has been damaged enough, the whole structure breaks. As such, hitting the same quadrant repeatedly will take the wall down faster than hitting several quadrants. Any crystal gate needs two bomb-rock explosions in order to shatter.

Bamboo gates are gates made out of bamboo reeds. They require Winged Pikmin to clear, but unlike other gates, these cannot be opened permanently. Each of the five reeds has a handle on top of it and requires two Winged Pikmin or a similar Pikmin in order to be lifted. As such, ten Winged Pikmin must be issued to lift the entire gate. Until they are called back, they will keep the gate in this open position, allowing leaders, Pikmin, and even enemies passage underneath. No more than ten Winged Pikmin can lift a single gate, and once they are told to return, they will close it again. If less than all the Winged Pikmin get called back, the gate will fall and any remaining Pikmin will struggle to hold up the gate. If an item gets stuck under a closed bamboo gate, it will remain in the spot it was set, with the individual reeds resting on the item.

Gates, also called walls, are obstacles that block paths to other areas. They are found in several different forms, which require different strategies to overcome.

Types

Bramble gate

A black poison gate.

Bramble gates are the most basic type of gate besides dirt walls. Any Pikmin type can damage a bramble gate. There are two types of these gates: white and black. Black gates are harder to break down than white ones. These can also be found with gas pipes nestled within, requiring White Pikmin to take them down. White gates can also be destroyed with two bomb-rocks, while black gates require four.

Dirt wall

Dirt walls are sandcastle-like gates that are nearly as common as bramble gates. These types of gates can be destroyed by any Pikmin type; however, some of these walls are found partially or completely submerged in water, meaning that they require Blue Pikmin or a similar Pikmin to destroy effectively. These walls can be destroyed using a single bomb-rock.

Reinforced wall

Reinforced walls, also known as stone gates, are, as the name would suggest, less destructible than regular gates. Pikmin alone cannot attack these stone walls: if they are told to try, they will just tap their stems at them for a bit, before sighing and giving up. Bomb-rocks must explode near them to take them down. Reinforced walls that are made of stone can be colored either white, gray or black, and require three, six and nine bomb rocks to destroy, respectively. Reinforced walls that are made out of concrete only require three bomb-rocks to demolish.

Electric gate

Electric gates carry electrical current. As such, Pikmin that are not Yellow cannot touch them, under the risk of temporary paralysis or death. Other than that, they can be taken down just like any other type of gate. Some electric gates resemble a fence made of metal and appear more bent out of shape as they take more damage; these gates kill non-Yellow Pikmin on contact. Others are made of four fluorescent lamps laid horizontally on top of one another, with each lamp breaking down and becoming harmless at each stage of destruction. When the gate is finally opened, all lamps explode. Pikmin cannot grab on to this type of gate; they can only attack from the ground. Bomb-rocks cannot be used to damage these gates. Non-Yellow Pikmin that touch this type of gate will merely be temporarily paralyzed until they are whistled at.

Crystal wall

Crystal walls are gate types that require Rock Pikmin to break. The gate itself is made by a piece of glass that has been securely lodged between two clamps and will crack as it is hit with Rock Pikmin. Once enough damage has occurred, the wall will shatter altogether. The cracks are split into quadrants, and once a quadrant has been damaged enough, the whole structure breaks. As such, hitting the same quadrant repeatedly will take the wall down faster than hitting several quadrants. Any crystal gate needs two bomb-rock explosions to shatter.

Bamboo gate

Bamboo gates are gates made out of bamboo reeds. They require Winged Pikmin to clear, but unlike other gates, these cannot be opened permanently. Each of the five reeds has a handle on top of it and requires two Winged Pikmin or a similar Pikmin to be lifted.

Brick wall

Brick walls are rare walls that can only be destroyed by iron balls.

Pikmin: Attack of the Breadbugs

Template:PAOTB Gates can be found in all Territories within the Land of Wonders in Pikmin: Attack of the Breadbugs. Gates are never found in Dangerous Depths. Below is a list of where each gate can be found.

White bramble gate

 • One can be found guarding the exit of the Beginner Territory.
 • Five can be found throughout the Arctic Territory, and are very brittle.
 • Three can be found splitting the Giant Breadbugs evenly in the Loaf Territory.

Black bramble gate

 • Three can be found around the Inferno Territory.
 • Seven can be found distributed around the Marsh Territory, and are difficult to demolish. Some are submerged. Goolixes can pass through them slowly.
 • Five are surrounded by Poison in the Toxin Territory.
 • A single one can be found guarding the Yellow Onion in the Spark Territory.

Electric fences

 • Three can be found scattered throughout the Spark Territory.
 • A single Electric Fence protects the exit of the Spark Territory.
 • A single one can be found in the Marsh Territory, guarding the Blue Onion.

Stone gates

 • A single one can be found slightly camouflaged around a rock wall, can be broken by repeated hits from Purple Pikmin.
