The Scarab Giant is a boss encountered in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. It resembles a stag beetle and is about the size of a Sandbelching Meerslug. The creature is of a brown coloration, with a black head and legs. The wings are light grey, and its eyes are a glowing blue. Along with one sharp spike on each leg, its large pincers are extremely sharp and have razor-sharp, jagged edges. Upon entering its arena, the large beetle will erupt from the ground, swinging its large pincers around. After a crackly, deep roar, the battle will begin.

The large beetle is extremely hostile, and won't hesitate to attack immediately when the battle starts. The beetle's main attack is charging the group while swinging its pincers around. The pincers can jab and kill Pikmin easily. In order to beat the boss, wait for it to enter its second state: the giant beetle will begin to fly around the arena, occasionally divebombing to attack and jab at Pikmin. If enough Winged Pikmin are thrown at its head when it's not attacking, the bug will be weighed down, fall onto the ground and flip over. Its soft underbelly will be exposed to attack. After a while, the bug will right itself and resume its fight. Iguana Pikmin can latch their tongues to the head of the beast to weigh it down.

If the Scarab Giant emits a roar, the Pikmin will be sent into a frenzy, and up to seven Anode Beetles will fall from the sky and flip over upon hitting the ground. However, its most deadly attack can happen when it's flying: the Scarab Giant will aim its rear at the Pikmin and produce a giant ball of lightning from it. The ball will erupt into a large ring of electricity, similar to the Titan Dweevil's Shock Therapist attack. As long as the electricity persists, the beetle will attempt to slash down at any Pikmin nearby but may hit the ring of electricity itself and fall down and flip over from shock. Alternatively, 25 Rubber Pikmin can redirect the volts back at the boss and cause it to fall down and flip over. Defeating Scarab Giant for the first time will grant the "Don’t Stick This in the Outlet" achievement.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This giant species of beetle seems to be a mutated form of the Stag Beetle. However, the beetle developed the necessary hair and organs an Anode Beetle needs to produce electricity. This creature, despite its menacing attacks, just feeds on decaying bark and tree sap. They do not eat other creatures.

Louie's notes

Grill this giant beetle and slice it up to put in a burrito with tomatoes, beans, cheese, guacamole, hot sauce, and sour cream.

President’s notes

I think I have seen one of these bugs on this planet before. It was only the size of my hand, however. Why are these ones ginormous? Maybe I'll start paying Olimar to document these creatures full-time.
