It seems as if this machine is as advanced as I am! A little... too advanced... Take this competitor out of the game! – The ship, upon discovering the Quadrant Legs

The Quadrant Legs is a boss in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature resembles most arachnorbs of its species, as its main body is a large orb. The orb of the beast is covered in gray, metallic platings with a row of blue windows with yellow edges. Four large, grey, metallic legs hold up the giant beast and allow it to walk around. However, the arachnorb has many different weapons too: it may wield a yellow taser, a red blowtorch, a blue hair dryer, or a green sprinkler, each weapon with its own threats.

The Quadrant Legs is found encased in a large chunk of crystal. When approached, the arachnorb will suddenly burst out a leg from the ground, holding a blowtorch. It will melt away the crystal with a strong flame before lifting itself out of the ground, initiating the boss fight. The boss will constantly move around the arena at a quick pace. Occasionally, it will stop to rest for a few seconds. If attacked, or if it decides to attack, the Quadrant Legs will flash a certain color from its orb that corresponds to its attack. If it flashes red, it will unleash its blowtorch. It will then blow fire into the air, causing embers to fall to the ground and light up Pikmin. If the light flashes green, it will reveal the sprinkler. The boss will spray the arena will a steady stream of acid that can burn Pikmin if they don't escape. If it flashes a blue light, it will pull out its hairdryer. It will blow a cold stream of air in the nearest direction of any Pikmin, freezing them solid. If the light turns yellow, the boss will pull out a taser. The Quadrant Legs will then slam the taser into the ground before a few spots on the ground begin to glow; small blasts of electricity will zap from those points shortly after.

Due to the dangerous nature of the Quadrant Legs, careful planning is essential. While Green Pikmin, Red Pikmin, Ice Pikmin, and Yellow Pikmin can take on each of their respective element, due to how dangerous the boss is, it's best to use a Pikmin that is immune to multiple elements. For example, the Statue Pikmin are immune to fire and electricity. Mechanical Pikmin can be upgraded to resist multiple or all hazards. If found, Bulbmin can also be used.

In Overlord mode, the Quadrant Legs becomes much more dangerous. Its flame attack becomes a blue flame, which can instantly sear any Pikmin not immune to fire. The taser attack becomes much larger and can arc between points in the ground. The blow dryer attack will launch a large snowball at the end of its use, which can crush any frozen Pikmin it hits. Finally, its sprinkler attack increases in range greatly and becomes much wider. When defeated, the Quadrant Legs will drop four dweevils of any element.

Olimar's notes

Like the Man-at-Legs, this species of arachnorb has formed a symbiotic relationship with technology. Quadrant Legs are armed to the teeth with weaponry that would put its younger brother to shame. It’s unknown why such a peaceful creature with few predators would need such weaponry, but a lot of the arachnorbs biology and taxonomy is a mystery. Perhaps they use their weaponry for hunting, but that’s just a speculation, like with the Man-at-Legs.

Louie's notes

Inedible. Tastes like metal, acid, ice, electricity, and fire.

President’s notes

Who needs a dinky Man-at-Legs when you have this giant beast as a weapon?! Haha! All debt collectors will become my servants! I’ll rule the entire cargo trade of the galaxy!!

Overlord’s thoughts

Another metal spider formation? This one seems super deadly. But why? Where are its predators? I guess I’ll call this guy the Man-at-Legs 2.0.

The Quadrant Legs is a boss in Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers. It visually resembles its closest relative, the Man-at-Legs, but even more mechanical. It has a grey steel exterior and four spindly legs with red joints that conceal cooling fans. Its main body is topped by a jewel-like light that can glow in many colors. Like the Man-at-Legs, its underside can open up, revealing one of four weapons. When it does this, it reveals melted strands of blackish-purple flesh akin to the Raging Long Legs. This is the only semblance of organic components on this creature. It is found at the final sublevel of Rusted Vivarium in Gloomy Mire, entangled in numerous vines and suspended above the ground. When approached, its light will glow red and it will reveal one of its weapons, which burns away the vines and frees the arachnorb. Due to its largely mechanical nature, it is one of the few enemies that can never be albino.

Normally, the Quadrant Legs will simply scuttle around its arena, with its light glowing white. Occasionally, its light will glow a different color and it will scurry to the center of its arena to initiate an attack. If the light glows blue, it will reveal a long weapon, looking like a blue hair dryer attached to a hose. This weapon sways back in forth whilst blowing sub-zero air, a polar opposite to the Titan Dweevil's Flare Cannon. Ice Pikmin are imperative in withstanding this attack, as others will be completely frozen. If the light glows green, it will reveal a green sprinkler that spews small streams of acid from its radially symmetric nozzles. They initially have very little range, only reaching directly under the Quadrant Legs' body. However, after some time, some of them will heighten in intensity, causing them to reach the very edges of the arena. Green Pikmin are immune to this attack, but it's better to simply stand in the proper place to survive. If the light glows yellow, it will reveal a yellow taser from its abdomen. It will launch the taser's electrodes at the Pikmin, shocking them. It can essentially plow through the entire army, and since the arena is surrounded by a pit on all sides with no boundaries, Pikmin that are shocked might end up flying over the edge. Eventually, the taser's electrodes will be launched as far as they can go, and it will automatically reel them back in via the wire connecting it to the body. Even then, it can still shock Pikmin. If the light glows red, it will reveal the weapon it used to free itself at the beginning of the fight, which resembles a red bunsen burner. It will launch numerous blue embers into the air, which slowly fall to the ground and linger for a while before burning out.

It has high health and fair defense, ensuring that all of the Quadrant Legs' weapons will get some spotlight before it reaches half-health. When this happens, a flurry of yellow sparks will shower out of the fans on its joints and it will automatically throw off Pikmin. From that point on, its joints will release smoke and a chunky rattling noise can be heard from the fans. All of its attacks also get stronger: the ice attack leaves black ice on the ground, making it slippery. The acid attack has been extended, so when the intensified streams of acid run out, the other streams will get stronger instead, necessitating that the leaders move in between them once more. The electric attack now turns the taser's electrodes into a rocket-powered projectile that homes onto the squad and explodes into a shockwave of electricity if it either makes contact or uses up all of its fuel. The fire attack's embers are now fewer, but they explode into carpets of blue flame upon hitting the ground. When defeated, its joints will begin to break apart as its light cracks and cycles through all its colors. It calls forth all of its weapons, but they get tangled up with each other. It then accidentally closes its hatch on the weapons, severing them, before its joints explode. Its body is sent high into the air as its legs fall flat. When the body hits the ground, it goes up in a massive but harmless explosion that destroys all of its parts.

When rematched in Gladiator's Gulch, the Quadrant Legs will have its upgraded attacks even from the beginning of the fight. When it gets to half of its health, its attacks become even more powerful: its ice attack has much more range, resulting in half of the arena being covered in black ice. Its acid attack repeatedly alternates between the streams, requiring a lot of maneuvering. Its electricity attack fires three electrodes that all pursue the squad, at the cost of having wider turns. Its fire attack initially has it shoot its normal embers, before firing exploding ones that fall where the active leader is standing.

Notes

Olimar's notes

A close relative of the Man-at-Legs, this arachnorb also fuses with machinery at a crucial point of its life. Compared to its steampunk relative, this clanking insect relies even more heavily on its machinery, and requires the usage of synthetically-made cold air, acid, electricity, and fire to survive. It is suspected these aid in regulating internal temperatures, digesting edible matter (if such a creature is even still able to consume food), and circulating vital fluids through its body through electric charges. Although it lacks the spectacular firepower of its relative, it can still weaponize these substances when in danger. Of course, arachnorbs have no natural predators, suggesting this creature's machinery is just as territorial as the Man-at-Legs' own.

Louie's notes

It does not have the decency to secrete any edible fluids, so you're just left with its runny "meat" that tastes like petrol and coolant.

Ship's comments

It seems like all the sentient machines on this planet take cues from bugs. Does that mean the machines are slowly turning into these icky pests? Is it a parasitic infestation that only affects sentient AI? Am I... am I at risk of becoming what I hate the most? Bzzzrt! DOES NOT COMPUTE! DOES NOT COMPUTE!
