Bloodbath is one of the more gruesome bosses in Pikmin: The After Years. It initially appears as a large, floating red eye with a vertical slit pupil, but later forms a mass of dark matter around itself to serve as a body surging with red energy, complete with a tail and disembodied, clawed hands. Late in the story, Bloodbath is revealed to be one of the three forces, alongside the Smoky Progg and Dark Matter Warrior, commanded by Zero Two; coincidentally, all three do not appear in Remembrance Ravine. Additionally, Bloodbath is the younger relative of Zero Two and the offspring of the Dark Virus. Furthermore, in Galactic Warpzone, wherein a more difficult version of every boss, under the influence of dark matter, is refought, Bloodbath, the Smoky Progg, and the Dark Matter Warrior remain the same as all three are under the substance's influence.

Bloodbath's first form.

In its first form, Bloodbath's only attack is to ram into Pikmin in an attempt to depetal them and knock them down. The only way to harm Bloodbath is by throwing Pikmin at its eye, which is unfortunately too high for the mighty Purple Pikmin to reach. After its health is fully depleted, Bloodbath seemingly disappears into dark matter, but then reappears in a much stronger form, beginning phase two of the battle. In this form, Bloodbath's main attack consists of firing stars that will explode on contact, killing any Pikmin in the blast radius, which is smaller than that of a bomb rock. It also occasionally uses its hands to slash Pikmin in half, instantly killing them. When its veins glow blue, call every Pikmin off of its eye, as it is about to blink, instantly killing any still attached. When one-fourth of Bloodbath's health is depleted, it begins occasionally releasing blood from the veins covering its body; the resulting puddles eventually form into Bloodlexes. When one-half of its health is depleted, Bloodbath begins charging a devastating attack, indicated by its eye glowing a gradually more intense hue of yellow; once fully charged, Bloodbath projects a deadly laser beam that instantly kills any Pikmin and downs any unprotected leader it hits. After it concludes its laser attack, Bloodbath becomes temporarily open to attack while it stops to rest. If the Reflector has been obtained, which is by defeating Bloodbath in the Secluded Cemetery, the specter's laser can be reflected back at it, momentarily stunning it and rendering it defenseless, although it will immediately begin its next attack upon recovering instead of stopping to rest as it does normally. Upon defeat, Bloodbath's eyeball gruesomely tears apart from its body, and the body and hands disintegrate into dark matter. Bloodbath's eye can be recovered for fifty seeds.

The only way to refight Bloodbath again is by completing story mode.

Riot's notes

Whose blood will be spilt in the Bloodbath? Who will the victors be? How many will survive? Good luck...

Bloodbath is a 1.9/2.0/2.1 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration level hosted, verified and published by Riot on 12 August 2015. Following its verification, it was initially placed at #1 on the Official Extreme and Insane Demon Records List (nowadays known as the Demonlist). Barely any other level would challenge this position for over a year until Sakupen Hell was released, marking the beginning of Bloodbath's descent in perceived difficulty. It is the second instalment of the community-designated trilogy of similarly-themed Extreme Demons, succeeding Cataclysm and preceding aftermath. An extended remake, Bloodlust, was verified by knobbelboy and released in 2.1. One of the most popular and recognizable levels in the game, Bloodbath is the most downloaded and liked level in the game that is not featured in a gauntlet, map pack, or Geometry Dash World. In the Geometry Dash 10-Year Anniversary presentation, the level was voted the second most favourite level of players, behind Change of Scene.

History

Orgin and creation

Before Bloodbath, Riot initially began creating a ridiculously difficult level known as 'Silent Akbar' along with Cyclic and Aurorus, which was intended to surpass the difficulty of ICE Carbon Diablo X but was abandoned due to its impossible difficulty so Riot decided to host another project.

On 2 June 2015, Riot uploaded the first preview of a level called 'Bloodbath', featuring a difficult ship part. A week later, Riot posted the second preview of Bloodbath, featuring Havok, Giron and Ggb0y's parts. Afterwards, Michigun uploaded a preview of his part in the level. On 6 July 2015, Riot uploaded a trailer video of Bloodbath featuring all of the creators involved in the project.

Verification process

Riot began making progress in attempting to verify Bloodbath, getting 48% on 26 June 2015. He then got 58% on 13 July, 65% on 3 August and then 90% on 6 August. Riot then crashed at 94% on 8 August 2015, crashing at Ggb0y's part, eventually becoming his worst fail in the level. Eventually, on 12 August 2015, Riot finally verified Bloodbath after over 25,000+ attempts and countless amounts of practice on stream. The level would immediately be placed at #1 on the Geometry Dash forums Demonlist after its verification.

Legacy

Bloodbath remains one of the most popular Extreme Demon levels in Geometry Dash, if not the most popular. It is currently the most downloaded and liked Extreme Demon in-game. The level remained unbeaten for seven months until Quasar beat it on 14 March 2016.
