I think it just alerted the Wraith...! – The ship, upon discovering the Wraith Sentinel

The Wraith Sentinel is an enemy that appears in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature resembles a large, amorphous pillar made of a light-grey, transparent plasm with a black orb in its center. Along with this, four slimy tentacles protrude from its main body, and two large tentacles root it into the ground, ceiling, or wall it's located on. The Wraith Blob, in Overlord mode, can not turn into a Wraith Sentinel.

The Wraith Sentinel is found mainly in the Wraith Crystal Cavern. Wraith Sentinels can be found rooted onto small pillars sticking out of the ground. Occasionally, they can also be found rooted onto the side of walls, or even the underside of ceilings. Due to how they are stationed, nothing can harm them, not that they can be killed to begin with. Once a Wraith Sentinel spots a leader or Pikmin, it will suddenly glow bright white, and then release an ear-piercing shriek that sends all Pikmin into a panic. This scream will also alert all wraith enemies within a medium radius. They can also alert boss wraiths like the Plasm Wraith or Waterwraith if they are nearby. If the offending leaders and Pikmin flee out of sight, the Sentinel will return to its normal state.

The only way to overcome the Wraith Sentinel is by running away from it. Avoiding the Sentinel as much as possible will prevent it from attracting the attention of other enemies. If spotted, it's advised to whistle the squad and get out of the Wraith's presence as soon as possible.

In Overlord mode, the Wraith Sentinel's shriek can not only alert enemies in a larger radius, it will immediately spawn the Waterwraith or Plasm Wraith in the sublevel, if it hasn't appeared yet. Along with this, they can also fire small balls of white fire that can light up non-Red Pikmin. Its most deadly trait is being able to uproot itself and move to a more strategic location, during which it can scare leaders and Pikmin again.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: Avoid the Wraith Sentinel to not attract attention to yourself from vicious creatures!
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #2 (Overlord mode): If a Sentinel spots you, it can instantly summon the Waterwraith!
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #3 (Overlord mode): Watch out, Sentinels can easily uproot and move to a different position.

Olimar's notes

This species of wraith acts independently from the Waterwraith once separated and is thus classified as a different species entirely. The Wraith Sentinel is a particularly tricky species that alerts the wraith pack to any unsuspecting prey. They can actually unroot themselves to scavenge the kill once a Gargantuar or Brute takes out the intruder. Sentinels are a key part of the Wraith's defense, and they should be avoided at all costs.

Louie's notes

Inedible. Side effects may include breathing fire and having the ability to walk on walls... OLIMAR! I SPOT OLIMAR!!

President’s notes

This guy nearly made me faint when he let out his roar! This is an obvious upgrade to cameras, however... No thieves will be able to take my money now!

Overlord’s thoughts

More wraith minions. This little guy is the quiet one of the group. They do deliver, however. I could easily hunt down Olimar with these guys... but I guess it wasn't enough. How in PNF-404 did he manage to escape my Wraith cave!?
