The Rotten Dirigibug is a species of dirigibug in Pikmin Evolution that has been infected by sporovid spores. Specifically, it's a Careening Dirigibug, and it has a dull grayish-green body with foggy yellow eyes, and misshapen brown air sacs that grant it flight. Its most notable feature is the moldy clump over its mouth, which is what controls this unfortunate insect. The Rotten Dirigibug has behaviors similar to its uninfected counterpart, that being to drift aimlessly in the air, attacking any Pikmin and leaders that enter its territory. What makes Rotten Dirigibug different behavior-wise is its almost robotic habit of dropping its payload even when nothing is near. The Rotten Dirigibug drops special capsules containing Glueshrooms, which create sticky mold when they grow from the ground, making the terrain more difficult and slower to navigate. Even worse is that the rancid recesses of the Rotten Dirigibug cover the Glueshroom capsule with deadly gloom, making it one of the few normal enemies to use the hazard. This creates a weapon even deadlier than the Careening Dirigibug's, as, while the Rotten Dirigibug's payload doesn't explode, it can kill every Pikmin type, and can't be negated with Elixer Pikmin. When the payload drops, however, the gloom dissipates, making the pellet a bit less dangerous.

Like its previous appearances, the Rotten Dirigibug can be dropped from the air with a well-aimed Pikmin toss, causing it to fall and flail about. The Rotten Dirigibug is notable in that its mold clump is its only weakpoint, as while attacking the carapace of other dirigibugs will inflict reduced damage compared to attacking their underbellies, attacks directed at the Rotten Dirigibug's carapace or stomach will do nothing. As its main attack revolves around scattering gloom, all Pikmin types are equally as valuable when fighting this creature, but since Kelp Pikmin can use their tethering leaves to bring down the Dirigibug for a free sneak attack, they would most likely be the most useful. Overall, the Rotten Dirigibug presents a dangerous twist on a familiar enemy, with a corrosive secret.
