The Medicinal Dandelfly is a species of dandelfly appearing in Pikmin Evolution. It has the general appearance of the Nectarous Dandelfly but has a purple body with pink fluid sacs. This Dandefly lives in areas containing a high density of wildlife and will flee from sizeable quantities of carrion. They are often present on rest sublevels alongside Honeywisps and Nectarous Dandelflies in some of the longer dens. It is a pacifist at heart, never wanting to attack anything in its territory, and in fact, supports all life. Upon coming across a creature that was hurt from battle, the Dandelfly will sprinkle its bright pink nectar from its body onto them. This vapor is neither poisonous nor a confusion-inducing gas; rather, it is a unique substance only it can create. It heals any enemy or leader that breathes it in at a steady rate, potentially restoring their health to full. However, its healing nectar does have its limits, as it can't heal mechanical enemies, creatures that are infected with mold or utilize gloom, or lifeforms not of this world such as the Waterwraith.
Any Pikmin type can attack the Dandelfly at any point due to its lack of offensive capabilities, but the extended throw height of Roach Pikmin and the whip-like leaves of Kelp Pikmin make them the most efficient types to attack the creatures with. Rather than a traditional health wheel, the Medicinal Dandelfly's health is indicated by the number of intact fluid sacs on each of its body's segments. After bursting all five of the Dandelfly's sacs, it will flee while leaving behind an assortment of nectar, sprays, and most notably, a droplet of its unique fluid, called ambrosia. It is a rare resource that can be used to flower Pikmin or restore a majority of a leader's health. Overall, Medicinal Dandelflies provide an easy and convenient way for leaders and enemies alike to recover from their injuries, befitting their name.
Notes
Ivy's journal
- “This species of Dandelfly is noted for its vibrant purple hue and the unique pink secretions specimens produce in their abdomen. In contrast with the Nectarous Dandefly, which lays its eggs in the cold waters of the north, the Medicinal Dandelfly lays its eggs in the warm waters of the south. The larvae are notable in that they retain a vegetarian diet, feasting on algae and kelp until they mature enough to molt and gain flight. Their pink secretions are only a recent discovery, but they have already been shown to be able to patch up injuries and disinfect wounds.”
Leni's recipe book
- “It is best to hunt for wild Medicinal Dandelflies as most farms fail to give their livestock sufficient amounts of nectar to form their signature pink secretions. When you do collect these samples from wild Dandeflies, you should freeze them in cold storage. When you serve cocktails or martinis, grind the frozen substance over the drinks to make sweetly tasty shaved ice.”
Marvin's strategy guide
- “A completely innocent medic, if they were sentient, I would court-martial anyone who attacks it and feed them to the Bulborbs. But they aren't sentient, so let's snipe them out of the air.”
