Nebula is an entirely new boss and aggressive entity found in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. This being is only found in the Mystical Fields after being released by Louie. true form that Nebula takes on is not known by anyone. What is known, however, is that he was mysteriously manifested thousands of years ago. As he began to wreck havoc across the life on PNF-404, the Overlord of All Lifeforms stepped in; defeating him and sealing him in a jar for thousands of years. The physical form he chooses to inhabit its a large, bloodshot eyeball with white sclarea and a dark red pupil. Along with this, he is surrounded by numerous, smaller eyeballs floating around him. His most notable feature is his two large, dark grey, scaley hands with sharp, yellow nails. These hands are attached to no forearms, and simply float around in front of him. The entirety of Nebula is surrounded in a mist of dark red gas. The personality of Nebula is extremely hostile. His only goal is destroying all living organisms on PNF-404, so he will do anything to achieve such goal. Having an extremely high intelligence, he will try to find the weaknesses of a person in order to manipulate them into doing his bidding; like how he manipulated Louie when he was first released. Although he is calm and collected at first, he has an extremely short fuse, and anyone who matches his power will cause him to go into a frenzy. It is his main weakness along with people who are good or have a pure heart; like Captain Olimar and the Overlord of All Lifeforms.

Encounter

“..ugh,”

As Louie blasted away from Captain Olimar in his emergency spacepod due to the Mecha Louie 2.0 being destroyed, he ends up crashing into the Mystical Fields; right into an extremely remote island. This island has barely any fauna, and shows no signs of life at all. The island itself is extremely small as well. As Louie exited the smoldering wreckage of his robot head, he ends up finding a jar; hidden deeply away from any signs of life.

“Ooh... yummy. Jam?”

Louie, being naive, ends up opening the jars lid. Suddenly, a dark red mist poured from the jar. An extremely bright light suddenly blasts from the jar; causing it to explode. As the light began to dissipate, a large entity began to form right in front of Louie. This entity being Nebula.

“...I'm finally free.”

“Ugh. Not food. Whatever.”

Louie began to walk back to his spaceship. But Nebula stopped him from doing so. He wanted information from the Hocotation.

“My child. Tell me what has happened ever since... I was seemingly sealed away.”

“I don't know what you're talking about. Just trying to run away from big galaxy man. I ate all of his animals.. they were yummy.”

“Galaxy man... the Overlord. That rotten bug sealed me away for thousands of years. But now that I'm free... I will make sure that every being on this planet ceases to exist.”

“You're gonna kill everyone? Kill my food? No! I'm gonna tell him!”

“My child... I will give you a feast for a thousand men. I will make sure that your belly is full of nourishment for thousands of years. I can give you the greatest taste in the universe... only if you do not tell the Overlord of what I am about to do.”

“Food, huh? Okay.”

Nebula, although a bit surprised about how easy that was, knew that nobody could stop him now. Since the Overlord was occupied in trying to find Louie and Olimar, he could start causing havoc on the planet. His first stop would be where he was sealed; the Mystical Fields. As he began to wreck havoc on the area, the ship caught wind of the chaos on his radar.

“ALERT! ALERT! I'm detecting massive chaos in the Mystical Fields. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?”

“Oh Louie... what am I going to do with you...”

They blast off into the Mystical Fields, hoping to stop who they think is Louie. When they land, they end up seeing that its Nebula instead.

“Uhm.. that's not Louie. What on Hocotate is that thing?!”

The Pikmin began to cower behind Olimar; obviously in fear from Nebula's evil presence. The entity, who heard the ship land, slowly approached the group.

“Hello there, my child. You strike a bearing resemblance to that dim-witted blond fool... are you perchance related to him?”

“Louie...”

“Louie, huh? Whatever his name, you will all suffer the same fate as this planet; total destruction.”

“Olimar... do something!!”

Suddenly, the Pikmin began to step forward; clearly angry at this evil beast. They wanted to fight. Nebula, seeing this, was ready to oblige. He bellowed a deep, scratchy laugh which echoed throughout the Mystical Fields. A blue ring of fire surrounded the group; trapping them.“So your little minions want to take me on... huh? Fine, I will play along. But this will be the last fight you ever partake in.

PREPARE TO DIE!”

Fight

The battle with Nebula is an extremely dangerous one, for the entity wields an arsenal of deadly attacks. Its main attack comes from its hands. Nebula will aim its hands at the group, and fire a large blast of dark matter from his palm in the form of a large ball. This dark matter, when it hits the ground, will create a large pool of the substance; disappearing after ten seconds. He will fire one blast from each hand. However, he may fire multiple blasts from his hands on lower health. Another attack is forming his hands into a finger gun and firing a large, piercing beam of light at any Pikmin. This light, when touched by Pikmin, will vaporize them instantly. When he has lower health, he will fire multiple beams from each finger. This attack has a chargeup, which allows time for the player to dodge. Its third unique attack is clenching his fist. When he does this, a small target will begin to glow on the ground for a few seconds. Suddenly, a large eruption of bright red light will burst from the ground and into the sky. This matter can also kill any Pikmin which it touches. Its fourth and final attack is summoning up to three Vampeyers. These pesky creatures will fire lasers at Pikmin; being able to kill one with each laser shot. For each Pikmin it kills, it will gain more health. This makes them a nuisance that needs to be taken out as soon as possible.

After performing a few attacks, Nebula will suddenly teleport in the middle of the arena. This gives you a chance to attack him by throwing Pikmin at his eye or smaller eyeballs. Dart Pikmin and Cactus Pikmin can do heavy amounts of damage to the boss, making them best fit for the fight. However, after seven seconds of attacking, Nebula will suddenly begin to charge an attack in his hands. Four beams of bright red light will fire along the floor; forming a plus sign. They will begin to slowly move around, which means that the player must move along with said beams of light. They will begin to slowly grow faster until stopping after fifteen seconds. During this time, Vampeyers may be summoned from Nebula to aid him. Once the beams disappear, Nebula will return to his original position to repeat the process.

At half health, Nebula will enter his second phase. His red coloration will suddenly become a bright blue. His eyes, hands and horns will suddenly grow in size and become much more vile. In this phase, all of Nebula's attacks will be upgraded. His dark matter blasting attack will become much larger and deadlier, as Nebula can now fire up to five blasts from his hand at a time. His finger gun attack also becomes much larger, as he will fire up to ten lasers at once if provoked. These lasers will drag through the ground, creating a blue fire which can incinerate any Pikmin type and burn Red Pikmin. His fist-clenching attack also becomes much larger, and numerous small balls of fire will fall down from the eruption of light. His Vampeyer summon attack is also upgraded. Along with summoning Vampeyers, he will summon Brute Vampeyers. These species of Vampeyer are much stronger and fire deadlier lasers. Volatile Vampeyers are also summoned. As their name suggests, they will blow up nearby Pikmin. Along with these enemies, Red-Eye Flappers, Fireball Snitchbugs, Juggling Dirigibugs and Metal Dirigibugs can also be spawned. Sprinting Dirigibugs can also run into the arena through the flame. In their blue-fire state, they do much more damage and can light up Pikmin. When he jumps into the middle of the arena, he can also summon all of these enemies. Along with this, the blue beams of light will move much more faster.

Defeat

As enough health is drained, Nebula will fall back, clenching his horns. The blue fire ring that surrounded them fizzled out.

“YOU DARE TRY TO TAKE ME ON...!?!”

He suddenly fires a large blast of dark matter at the group, knocking them down onto the ground. Olimar slams into the ground; heavily weakened from the fight.

“It's useless... even if you had the strength to defeat me... I CANNOT BE KILLED BY PHYSICAL MORTALS!! YOUR ATTACKS ARE POINTLESS!”

“He's right... I can't detect him on my sensors...!”

“And now... you must be destroyed. You will suffer the same fate as this planet, Olimar.”

However, as this was going down, Captain Olimar saw a tiny green glow in the sky.... and then he saw another glowing light. As he kept looking, he began to realize what the glowing lights were.

In awe, he saw hundreds upon hundreds of Glow Pikmin, soaring to his aid from all directions.

“What... the...”

“The Glow Pikmin...!”

Suddenly, tens of thousands of Glow Pikmin began to congregate, slowly forming into their most powerful attack; the Glow mob. The more Glow Pikmin that joined the bomb, the bigger it grew.

“WHAT!? IMPOSSIBLE...!! WHAT ARE THESE THINGS..!?”

Captain Olimar stood up.

“PIKMIN...”

He blew his whistle. Suddenly, hundreds upon hundreds of Pikmin collected by Olimar poured out of the Onion, joining the charge. Even more wild Pikmin came out, amping up their numbers. Wild Pikmin that Olimar had not even discovered yet also appeared; which may give the player a hint on what they will discover next. These thousands of Pikmin jumped onto Nebula, holding him down and pounding on him the whole time. As this happened, the Glow mob began to descend on Nebula.

“WHAT!? IMPOSSIBLE...!! WHAT ARE THESE... MISERABLE INSECTS?!?”

As the Pikmin held him down, the Glow mob struck down on Nebula. He tried to push it back with his arms, but the power of thousands of Glow Pikmin began to disintegrate him slowly.

“CURSE.... YOU.... OLIMAR....!!”

With a spectacular explosion of light, Nebula was completely incinerated and killed. The large explosion ended up blinding the captain and everyone else in the vicinity. This massive explosion also caught the eye of the Overlord, who decided he would travel over there next. As the dust settled, Captain Olimar got out of the dirt and rubble caused by the explosion; surrounded by the thousands of wild Pikmin and Glow Pikmin.

“That was close... too close. Hey... what's that?”

In the massive crater laid the Fur Onion. This reward allows for the player to create Fur Pikmin. The crater created by the explosion will stay on the map permanently. As the Onion is collected, the ship pipes up.

“That's enough for tonight... we need to get some sleep. But if what that monster said was true... Louie is still out there.”

The Glow Pikmin began to travel to their Lumiknolls, as the wild Pikmin ran off. Captain Olimar, the President, and the rest of their Pikmin entered their respective vessels. They blasted off for the night; signifying the end of the boss fight.

Notes

• Data file #1: Nebula is extremely intelligent and cunning. He will utilize his attacks to take out as many Pikmin as possible.
• Data file #2: Do not touch the light made by Nebula. It will only vaporize you.
• Data file #3: The dark matter fired from Nebula will destroy the spirit of Pikmin. Don't let them touch it.
• Data file #4: Nebula has turned other innocent lifeforms into his slaves. Do not let them attack you.
• Data file #5: Nebula is weak in his eye. Aim for it.
• Data file #6 (Overlord mode): Nebula is enraged now. All of his attacks will be significantly amplified.
• Data file #7 (Overlord mode): Not only have airborne minions come to assist Nebula, grounded minions will become much powerful when lit by the flame of darkness.

“I don't know what this thing is... I don't even know where it came from! All I know is that it wanted me dead, and it found Louie first. How did Louie find this monster? Could he have summoned this evil entity? That's the only possibility! This being is not physical... it's spiritual...!! I need to sleep...”

“When I first saw this beast, I was completely petrified! He filled me with a sense of dread... then I thought that maybe he could fill debt collectors with a sense of dread too! I guess the little vampire eyeballs will do...”

Overlord’s thoughts

“Long ago, as I watched over this planet, the ancient races negativity and evil formed this evil being. Nebula wrecked havoc all over my planet, so I tried to take him down. Unfortunately, as long as there was evil from the ancient race; Nebula would never die. So, I could only seal him away. It seems that since now the ancient race is extinct, he was able to be killed. I'm surprised those little Glow Pikmin managed to pull it off... it fills me with a sense of pride seeing what such small animals can do. I just want to know who unsealed this evil monster... and why they would do such a thing... it was Louie wasn't it–”
