Its body is metallic yellow and its petals are silver. Despite having an [[Onion]], Gold Pikmin can be obtained only by maturing a Silver Pikmin, for which there is a special ceremony, the Gathering of the Silver, and during it, the Silver Pikmin of interest are each gifted one [[Bronze Whistle]] with which to command fellow [[Pikmin family|Pikmin]]. Gold Pikmin keep the whistle on a string around their neck and can use it to command a squad of up to fifteen other Pikmin, acting as a [[leader]] after being prompted to by [[Captain Olimar|Olimar]] or [[Louie]] by being thrown at no specific target. Olimar (or Louie) can activate the pikmin's "Leadership Mode" by throwing it on the ground. After being activated up to 15 pikmin will follow this substitute "captian".  You can play as the gold pikmin by selecting the glowing button on the bottom left-hand side of the screen that appears when you activate the pikmin.  Only one Gold Pikmin can be activated at any one time.

They are as powerful as every one of the ten discovered Pikmin types but are found only in caves and can not be brought to the surface. Glimmering Candypop Buds can be used to propagate them, though their use is limited by how late they are found into the adventure.
