The Excavating Tremit is an enemy appearing in Pikmin 44. Its habitat primarily spans the wooded trunks of the Twisting Treetops, however, it also appears in Blustering Tributary. The most noteworthy encounter with the Mounding Tremit appears within the cave Foregone Timber, where they are quite common. They can also be found towards the end of the game, within Lurid Cavity. Excavating Tremits always follow a set path from one hole to another, only stopping when they see prey to pursue. However, they give up rather easily to meander back on their original trail. Any Pikmin that gets in the way of its path will be eaten. Excavating Tremits often congregate near Excavating Tremit Kings, powerful mini-bosses capable of influencing their behavior. A mere roar from a Tremit King is sufficient to prompt nearby Excavating Tremits to alter course and proceed in the opposite direction. Mounding Tremits can be defeated by throwing any kind of Pikmin onto the weak spots on the end of their tail, or back of their head. Pikmin will bounce off all other points of their body. When damaged, they will quickly waddle back to one of their holes and crawl out the other to escape. If an Excavating Tremit walks within range of a Mounding Tremit, they will charge at each other and lock into battle until one of them gives up and scurries off. However, this doesn't happen often.
