The Rotten Dirigibug is a species of Dirigibug infected by spores coming from a member of the sporovid family that appears in Pikmin Evolution, its an infected form of the Careening Dirigibug. It has a dull grayish green body with foggy yellow eyes and misshapen brown balloons that allow it flight. Its most notable feature is the moldy clump that is on its mouth, which is what controls this unfortunate insect. The Rotten Dirigibug has similiar behaviors to its uninfected counterpart, that being to drift aimlessly in the air, attacking any Pikmin that enters its territory. What makes Rotten Dirigibug different from the Careening Dirigibug behavior wise is its almost robotic obsession with dropping its payload even when no one is near. The Rotten Dirigibug drops special capsules containing Glueshrooms, which create sticky mold when they grow out of the ground, making the terrain slower and harder to navigate. What makes this attack so deadly is the fact that the rancid recesses of the Rotten Dirigibug covers the Glueshroom capsule with deadly gloom, making it one of the few normal enemies to use that hazard. This creates a projectile even deadlier than the ones created by the Careening Dirigibug. This is because as while the former's payload doesn't explode, it also can kill any Pikmin type rather than have the explosion negated by bringing a squad of Elixer Pikmin. When the payload drops the gloom will dissipate and the Glueshroom will grow its sticky mold as usual. Like previous appearances, the Rotten Dirigibug can be sniped out of the sky with a well-armed Pikmin toss, which causes its body to fall and flair about revealing its weak underbelly. The Rotten Dirigibug is notable in that its moldy clump is its only weakpoint, as while other Dirigibugs can be attacked on their carapaces for reduced damage, attack that area on the Rotten Dirigibug will do nothing to it, so you must focus on attacking the moldy clump in its mouth. As its main attack revolved around scattering gloom, all Pikmin types are equally as valuable when fighting this creature, however since Kelp Pikmin can use their tethering leaves to bring down the Dirigibug for a free sneak attack, that would most likely be the best type to bring into the fight. Overall a dangerous twist on an existing enemy with a corrosive secret up its sleeve.
