The Sharpened Rumpup is a species of armrakid appearing in Pikmin Evolution. The creature has the general appearance of the Crusted Rumpup but has a shiny silver exoskeleton to emphasize its increased defense, its tail has what resembles a stinger at its tip, and it has a more pronounced pair of frontal claws. It is a feared alpha predator of the desert, known for its dangerous stinger and unbreakable armor. It first appears lying down on the sand, sunbathing, but is quick to attack. While it doesn't shoot or inject poison as expected, the Sharpened Rumpup can quickly impale up to five Pikmin at a time with its pointed tail before feeding on them. The Sharpened Rumpup's claws are also a dangerous weapon, as the creature not only uses them to protect its face but also to scoop Pikmin during its charging attack, giving it a wider charge range.

The Sharpened Rumpup's carapace, like the Crusted Rumpup's, renders it almost completely invulnerable to any direct attacks, its armored tail and claws only augmenting its defenses. When a Pikmin attempts to attack its protected face, the Sharpened Rumpup will thrust its tail at them, and if it misses, into the ground, where it will be stuck momentarily. At this point, if twenty Pikmin pull on its tail, the Rumpup will flip over, revealing a soft, tender underbelly to attack. After a while. the Sharpened Rumpup will dig itself free and burrow to a more advantageous place with its claws before emerging from the ground. Kelp Pikmin can grab the tail of the Rumpup at any point, though thirty are needed to flip the creature over. Alternatively, allow the Rumpup's to stab a lit Elixer Pikmin. The Pikmin won't die but will create a small blast, instantly flipping the Rumpup over. Most of the time, killing a Sharpened Rumpup will cause it to die normally, but on rare occasions, a Crusted Rumpup will emerge from the silvery exoskeleton and continue the fight, implying that the Sharpened Rumpup could be a mutated or older Crusted Rumpup. However, the scenario is very rare and only occurs in a select few dens.

Notes

Ivy's journal

As someone who came from the desert, I can tell you that Rumpups are quite a common sight. Well, Crusted Rumpups, that is. Now, Sharpened Rumpups are a different story. These creatures are the result of a very rare genetic mutation that causes the Crusted Rumpups to gain a metallic silver shell. This is due to the chemicals that were used in making the Crusted Rumpup's poison being diverted into the development of the carapace. This not only gives the creature a signature metallic musk but also makes them poisonous to eat, leaving them with few predators. In fact, the only reason we don't see many Sharpened Rumpumps out here is because those same poisons have made the creature infertile, meaning breeding them is out of the question.

Leni's recipe book

Even the hardiest stomachs can't survive the metallic toxins of this creature. I should know... I saw Ivy eat one of these and she has taken approximately 12 trips to the bathroom in a 5-hour timespan.

Marvin's strategy guide

Face the facts–flanking the tail won't work, so instead, you need to overcome the creature's big claws and flip it over.
