Rose Pikmin are the third Pikmin species discovered in Pikmin: New World, being found in Hot Tar Pools, underground, chasing a group of Pitchbugs near their Onion. They have a black mustache and beard, features setting them apart from other Pikmin, and a rose-colored body, as their name suggests. Although they have an Onion of their own, more Rose Pikmin can be made using Salmon Candypop Buds.

Rose Pikmin are extremely useful because of their great attack power and defense and because they are less likely to be crushed, buried, or blown up. Their resistance to explosions makes them very useful against enemies such Gatling Groinks, Careening Dirigibugs, Blastering Blurtles, and Boomy Blowhogs. Their main use is their resistance to hot tar, a hazard that is deadly to all other Pikmin, which they can walk through much like Blue Pikmin can water. Because of this, Rose Pikmin are essential for caves that contain tar. They can destroy tar quite quickly to allow safe passage for other Pikmin. However, because tar can be set ablaze by sources of fire, which Rose Pikmin are not resistant to, Red Pikmin must be used to destroy any nearby fire geysers and consequently the flames covering the tar. Enemies that use tar can have their tar set ablaze in much the same way, necessitating using Red Pikmin and Rose Pikmin in conjunction.

The Rose Onion is far smaller than other Onions, and because of this, it can only store up to thirty Rose Pikmin at a time. Any more Rose Pikmin beyond the maximum will be able to stay until sundown but will inevitably die when night falls because their Onion can not accept them. The trouble of raising a sizeable Rose Pikmin population is made worth the effort because of their usefulness.

Notes

In-game entry

These Pikmin have very thick hair all over their faces. This appears to be some form of malformation of the gene that gives Purple Pikmin their hair, except it is far thicker. This hair allows them to absorb heat and poisonous particles from the atmosphere around them, allowing survival in very hostile environments including being submerged in boiling tar. The deadly energy that the Rose Pikmin absorb from the tar must be excreted quickly so in is forced up its stem where it emerges from the tip as toxic smoke. This is because the Pikmin Planet's tar deposits all contain the liquid form of the very unstable radon-sulfide gas, a potent toxin that very quickly explodes into gas form at moderate temperatures to become separate sulfur and radon molecules, both extremely toxic even on their own. This process also creates high amounts of radiation, electric charges, and extreme heat! Even I am surprised that this notoriously-dangerous compound manages to pass through the Pikmin's body fast enough to not produce a gruesome explosion.

Rose Pikmin appear in Pikmin: The Pollution as the last Pikmin species to be discovered. They are encountered in Flowery Fields, the second-to-last area. Rose Pikmin have light pink skin, and a rose at the tip of their stem. They can heal other Pikmin with the honey they produce from their rose, making them one of the most useful in the game and making zero-death runs easier, but also have a very low attack power, weaker than that of leaders. However, they do have high health.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This is a quite feminine kind of Pikmin. Its rose produces a very sweet nectary substance that I call neswete, pronounced 'neh-sweet'. They act as a nurse for other Pikmin and are quite healthy. They seem to also have a very powerful immune system, as I saw some in the extremely poisonous pollution, and were perfectly fine. Its bright pink body is very soft and smooth. I think this may be why they can survive many attacks, even steps from a man-at-legs, or a beady long legs!

Sierra's notes

This Pikmin is quite fascinating. Its rose produces a very sweet substance, I like to put it with my breakfast. It seems to also have a superb immune system, as it easily survives polluted areas. It's soft, like a pillow, and smooth, which makes attacks slip, hurting it less. It's like a nurse, healing any Pikmin with neswete, which is what Olimar calls the substance they produce. I wish that this species could survive on our planet.
