The Metalwraith is a species of wraith in Pikmin 5 that is made of a metallic substance. Its general body shape resembles those of the Water and Plasm Wraith. The Metalwraith is first seen with the President, who it absorbs and traps inside itself before fleeing into the interior of the Miserable Mountain. It must be chased down and dissolved before it can reach the opening at the end of the cave and escape into the wilderness. Taking it down before it can reach the other side is quite a challenge as it will occasionally transform into elemental spheres to defend itself.

Freeing the President will automatically begin a cutscene showing the leaders and their Pikmin squad exiting the mountain cave, followed by the Wraith, which will revert to its humanoid form and suck up the President again. The Wraith will then become openly hostile, and a battle will ensue. Its initial attacks consist of simply stabbing and eating Pikmin, and it will be hurt if it consumes any White Pikmin. Upon losing one-tenth of its health, it will begin spawning some dark gray, striped objects that resemble miniature blasters, up to 6 if damaged sufficiently. The blasters fire spheres of different hazards that can endanger or outright kill Pikmin. The color of the stripes on the blasters corresponds to the hazard they produce: orange for fire, yellow for electricity, neon blue for water, teal for poison, gray for blunt force from metal objects, cyan for ice, plum for spores, dark green for slime, neon green for acid, and maroon for gloom.

When the Metalwraith dies, it spits up the President, who carries the Cyberspace Collider, which is needed for the N.X. Sapphire to be able to able to leave PNF-404, thus ending the story. The more sparklium the leaders collected during their adventure, the better the ending will be.
