The King Smoky Bulblax is a large grub-dog appearing in Pikmin: The War of the Pikmin Planet as the boss of Dark Cave. It is a dark version of the Emperor Bulblax. However, unlike its normal version, it is only fought once in the main story, and it is weaker than an actual Emperor Bulblax as it has less vitality. All of its attacks are the same except for the added effect of being able to suffocate any Pikmin that touches its backside.

- “This mysterious creature has only been encountered once. As such, details of it are sparse, and no more sightings of the frightening being have been recorded. What is known about it is that it is an emperor bulblax that has been corrupted with an unknown dark virus, as have most creatures in the cave it was located in. However, the virus seems to have made the specimen weaker. At the time of its death, it seemed to evaporate into smoke, leaving no traces of it behind. As the cave was exited, the cave itself vanished, leaving much to be known about this extraordinarily rare subspecies.”
