The Firecracker Fluttertail is a species of snowswallow appearing in Pikmin Evolution as a boss. It is the female counterpart to the Snowfake Fluttertail, and can be considered its opposite. While the Snowfake Fluttertail is a stocky and rather fluffy moth, the Firecracker Fluttertail is more slender, longer, and covered in a layer of shining scales. The Firecracker Fluttertail has a pair of large, graceful wings of brilliant reds, oranges, and purples, symbolizing the creature's control over fire, lava, and natural gas. The creature is first encountered hanging from the ceiling, feeding on the natural gas emitted from a vent with its proboscis and completely oblivious to its surroundings. The area is poisonous, and so Roach Pikmin must be used to activate four fans to clear the gas; by doing so, the Fluttertail becomes aggressive and starts attacking the leaders and Pikmin after breaking the fans.

True to its name, the Firecracker Fluttertail releases flaming dust as it flies, igniting the ground and anything else below. From a distance, the Fluttertail can also shoot a concentrated ball of flaming scales that settles into a pool of lava upon hitting the ground. The fans, which are key to killing the Fluttertail, can be reactivated to blow away the dust, although only one can be active at a time due to their critical condition. When the creature prepares its flaming ball attack, activating a fan in its range will blow the scales off it, leaving it vulnerable to any and all attacks until it regains its fiery armor. Upon reaching half-health, the wings of the Fluttertail will lose all of its red and orange scales to reveal all purple scales. Along with this, it loses its fiery powers, but can now use natural gas to its advantage. It uses streams of natural gas to trap Pikmin directly under it in a daze for it to lap up, which can be a potentially devastating attack. As if this wasn't enough, the Fluttertail will also surround itself in a wind barrier much like the Hurricane Blowhog's, rendering it immune to direct attacks until neutralized.

At this point, the Firecracker Fluttertail will deliberately avoid being in the range of a fan to prevent its defenses from being taken down. One leader must take a squad of Roach Pikmin and attempt to reactivate all four fans, which can now all function simultaneously as a result of the chaotic battle, while the other leaders distract the boss. After all four fans are activated, the gas will clear out and the Fluttertail will fall to the ground, the fans' air currents having neutralized its wind barrier, now completely defenseless to all Pikmin types. After a while, the fans short out, needing to be reactivated, and natural gas floods the chamber again. However, it is possible to take down the tyrannical beast the first time its cover is quite literally blown, and it is accomplished through the use of a gray syrup on each fan upon activating it. The syrups' vapor will blow onto the Fluttertail's wings, burning holes in it, effectively rendering it unable to fly or retaliate in any meaningful capacity. With this strategy, Fluttertail's spark extinguishes like the fires it creates.

No matter the strategy used against it, the Firecracker Fluttertail will spit up a valuable piece of refuse upon death. Overall, the Firecracker Fluttertail's name suits it in both a literal and figurative sense as it the battle against it is one of the most dynamic.
