The Billaborb is a boss in Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers. It resembles a typical bulborb but with green skin, four legs, and a long spotted tail. It also has gills, blue eyes with slit pupils, and each of its feet has a webbing membrane between its three toes. It is named after a billabong, and is inspired by the bunyip of Australian mythology. It lives within the lake of mud on the final sublevel of Grimy Resevoir. Its shiny, slippery skin is too rubbery to be harmed by Pikmin directly, so bomb rocks must be used. The crew must take a raft to some of the islands and peninsulas in the body of mud to find dirt mounds and excavate bomb rocks from them. As the squad sails across the mud, the Billaborb will chase after them. If it gets close enough, it will use its nose to flip the raft over, throwing everyone into the mud. It is possible to get back onto the raft and save everyone in the same way as they would with solid ground. The Billaborb might try to eat the Pikmin as they struggle to get back up.

When bomb rocks have been obtained, the active leader can throw a bomb rock into the mud, and then must lure the Billaborb into accidentally swallowing it. The bomb rock will explode in its stomach, flinging it into the air and damaging it. While the squad is on solid ground, however, the Billaborb will spit some mud to bury Pikmin. At lower health, it will even try to leave the mud and eat the Pikmin on land. When all of its health is depleted, it will use the last of its life to give chase once more, going both on land and across the mud. When the squad returns to the research pod, it will crawl out in pain, spit its treasure up, keel over and die.

When it is refought in Gladiator's Gulch, large bomb rocks will drop into the mud that serve as obstacles. The Billaborb will dip safely under them, and if the raft hits one, it will prime itself and become dangerous.

Notes

Olimar's notes

A semiaquatic grub-dog that is capable of tolerating poor water conditions. It cannot see through water, let alone murky and muddy bodies. Because of this, it usually hangs just beneath the waterline with its eyes above it. Its nostrils allow it to breathe for a short while on land, but it isn't enough to keep it oxidated out of water for long amounts of time. Due to this, it sleeps inside the water, and usually only leaves it when chasing prey.

Louie's notes

Remove the limbs, tail, and head. Slice into strips and bake inside an oven. Eat with au jus on the side.

Ship's comments

Its eyes peeking above the grimy waters brings to mind images of a submarine... This clearly means the creatures of this accursed planet are forming an army! It's the navy, RUN!
