The Alphorn Mastohog is a boss in Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers. It is a massive blowhog comparable in size to most hypertrophic blowhogs, namely the Titan Blowhog and Blizzarding Blowhog, but its size is typical for its species and not a defect. It has blue skin, irritated red eyes, and tusks. Notable is that its tusks, ungulate hooves, and the tip of its trunk are all a brilliant gold color. It appears as the boss of Torrential Igloo and is the largest blowhog species to encounter. Its primary attack is freezing Pikmin and leaders with its ice breath, which sends them sliding backward due to the force, possibly into the pit surrounding the arena. It may also rear up and spit many crystal nodules that function like falling boulders, shattering upon impact with the ground. The beast can let out a resounding roar, which both makes Pikmin panic and summons Alphorn Mastolets to its aid. When its health is below half, it will swap out its ice breath for an onslaught of rolling snowballs that pick up whatever they collide with. These are easier to avoid, but it's impossible to save Pikmin caught in them. It will also gain an attack where it sucks up Pikmin and leaders to eat them.

When it is refought in Gladiator's Gulch, it can also summon Borealic Blowhogs to its aid alongside its children, making the fight more dangerous due to the inclusion of aura.

Notes

Olimar's notes

With a diet of rooty vegetables and mushrooms, the alphorn mastohog lives a relatively prosperous life. In its adulthood, few creatures dare attack such a massive creature capable of freezing them in their tracks with its massive, heavily insulated cold sac. Hormone boosts during the mating season cause the males of this species to become dangerously feral, even to female specimens, mastolets, and other creatures. Nonetheless, fertile female specimens can have up to eight fit offspring at a time. Research has also gone into the creature's extremities, which sheen like authentic gold.

Louie's notes

Carve through the thick outer layer of skin and extract meat. Put the meat in pork casings with parsley and boil. The resulting blauwursts are perfect for those times you want to feel like you're eating fancy using frugal methods.

Ship's comments

Its aggression is fearful, its odor is wretched, and its skin is below freezing. However, the tusks and hooves are made of pure gold! Perhaps if I filed its nails, we'd get fine dust comparable to the real deal!
