The Whiptongue Mockiwi is a member of the mockiwi family found in the files of Hey! Pikmin. It resembles other mockiwis but has cream-colored feathers, a reddish-brown face, and a brown bill. Overall, its coloration and behavior strongly resemble that of the Whiptongue Bulborb, and like the Whiptongue Bulborb, the Whiptongue Mockiwi would have caught Pikmin on its long, slender tongue to eat them.

The Whiptongue Mockiwi appears in Pikmin: Spark as a miniboss appearing exclusively in Dens. They often spend their time sleeping with Unmarked Spectrilids lounging off of it before being eaten by the bird. It is unique as it's the sole boss that is fought in a 2D plane. The Whiptounge Mockiwi's main attack is its long tongue which it whoots diagonally in a straight line. The tongue will ricochet across the arena until it bounces 2 times, then the Mockiwi runs back. It can also burrow around the arena and either shoot its tongue from a different angle or jump down onto the Pikmin, crushing them. It's quite simple to take down as it's easily distracted by Purple Pikmin stunning it or being in close proximity to a Bomb-rock explosion.

When defeated it drops the Nectar Paste worth HP Sparklium icon.png × 250

Ultra-Spicy Differences

Its tongue now ricochets 3 times instead of 2.

Notes

Abel's medical journal

The tongue contains a saliva that has a strange numbing feeling to it, works as a pain repressor..

Lyn's sale review

Mix the saliva with wax and you will be able to create a great paste for gluing things together.

PIX's creature scan

Tounge is 3 times as long as the main body. Contains an agent that lets it stick to anything. Eats nectar as a food source. Easily startled by loud noises.
  • Habitat: dens

The Whiptongue Mockiwi appears in Pikmin Z as a species of mockiwi clearly befitting the niche of the Whiptongue Bulborb on Aves Isle, in both appearance and behavior, minus the spots, which are lacking in the mockiwi species. They are relatively easy to defeat, being no more challenging than an ordinary Mockiwi, and thus the same strategy against them may be used against a Whiptongue Mockiwi.

The Saplapper Mockiwi appears in Pikmin: Wide World as a member of the mockiwi family that feeds on nectar as well as Pikmin. It may be found on dry land, either exploring its territory, emitting nasally chirping noises as it moves about, or sleeping somewhere in it. A Saplapper Mockiwi will fall asleep on its own after some time exploring and being left alone, and will naturally awaken on its own sometime later unless it is made to prematurely by being approached, touched or harmed, or hearing a sound loud enough to rouse it from its slumber. While awake, a Saplapper Mockiwi will chase Pikmin and leaders that are in its territory, attempting to catch those in range of a quick thrust of its long tongue, eating grounded and airborne Pikmin alike that become stuck to it and chewing leaders before spitting them out alongside any Pikmin in its mouth at the time. It only stops pursuing them when they flee far enough away, exit its territory, or it cannot reach them, causing the creature to screech and snarl at them before walking away. However, it may attempt to reach inaccessible Pikmin and leaders with the use of its tongue before giving up. While awake and idle, a Saplapper Mockiwi will, true to its name, lap up any drops of nectar present in its territory, and may consume up to five whole drops of nectar before it becomes full. A Saplapper Mockiwi will also react positively to having nectar sprayed onto its face using a spray bottle, briefly distracting it.

A Saplapper Mockiwi physically much resembles most other mockiwis, being a squat, bird-like creature. It has fine, cream-colored, strand-like feathers covering a majority of its body, and it has a burgundy face, turquoise irises with white sclerae, black feet, and a brown bill. Inside of its mouth is a long, flexible, pink tongue.

With the exception of it having a much longer reach than other mockiwis because of its tongue, fighting a Saplapper Mockiwi is usually never much of an ordeal. The optimal way to kill one is from behind, which often requires quickly running around it, as the creature's tongue has an incredible reach but is only truly dangerous when attacking from the front. Upon death, a Saplapper Mockiwi will yield HP Sparklium icon.png × 6, and regurgitate one to two blobs of nectar inclusive alongside any other nectar it may have consumed. Aboveground, its body can be taken to either the Dolphin Lander for P3 Poko icon.png × 6 or an Onion for eight Pikmin seeds. Underground, its corpse can be taken to the Lander Pod to either gain P3 Poko icon.png × 6 or be stored to later gain eight discovered main Pikmin seeds of choice from the Master Onion, but only if the cave is exited using an escape geyser.

Notes

Olimar's notes

"This species of mockiwi feeds primarily on tree sap, but also readily feeds on nectar and smaller prey. It uses its long tongue to reach into cracks, high and low, containing its primary source of nutrients, but may also reach hiding prey using it. Always present in its stomach is a reserve of nectar to use in case it can not find more food."

Shacho's notes

"This creature teaches a great lesson, which is to always carry a little bit of something you need on you at all times. For it, it's that golden stuff, but for me, it's Pokos that I don't have at the time of writing this."

Marie's notes

"Saplapper mockiwis are passive creatures that prefer a fluid diet over a solid one. Give it plenty of affection and a constant supply of nutrient-rich liquids and it will be happy for sure! Just be careful when smaller animals are around it."

Louie's notes

"The nectar commonly found in the belly of this beast makes for a bitter but surprisingly complementary glaze to baste over this creature's meat as it cooks."

Dolphin Lander's notes

"I like how saplapper mockiwis are able to explore every nook and cranny using their tongue to reach deep inside of them. It sounds a bit filthy, but... it's what they do!"
